By which I mean. . . .Dd1 had a dreadful nosebleed last night and everything is covered in blood. I am really testing stain cleaners this morning! Problem is, the duvet won't fit in the washing machine and it is covered in blood. Can I put it in the bath with a pot load of stain removers and soak it in there? Will it work? Boiling water or just warm?
Please forgive the complete daftness of this question, I am tired and my brain is not working properly

duvet in bath idea sounds very good to me, and if the sun is out where you are, if you do it soon it will hopefully dry out quickly. I would use hot water, (around 60 degrees), boiling might damage it.

I think you are meant to use cold water and salt with blood, might be wrong there, good luck - someone here will know!

WonderingWhy · 09/06/2008 10:52

Hot water might set the stains iyswim.

PestoMonster · 09/06/2008 10:53

Hot water will set the stain. Blood usually is really easy to get out soak in cold water first before putting in the wash as normal. I find adding a bit of salt to the cold water can help.

Good luck!

You may have to take it to be tumbledried after if it's not sunny where you are. I had to do this. Not sure what the going rate is for a tumbler these days.

saadia · 09/06/2008 10:56

sorry didn't know that about hot water. We took our duvet to be dry-cleaned once and it turned out it would have been cheaper to buy a new one (from Dunelm).

HonorMatopoeia · 09/06/2008 10:56

Right, I'll give it a go! Cold water and a bit of salt. SHould I try stain remover too or just the salt to start with?

I'd try cold water and salt first -usually works quite well

Well done HonorMatopoeia!! It's brilliant when something works like that, isn't it?

Hope the rest of your day carries on improving

Thanks Pesto
Now, if I could just get the coffee stain off the carpet and summon up the energy to do the ironing.....

Good luck with your ironing. I've spent the morning doing mine, straight from the line. Going to remake the bed now - fresh sheets, I'm in heaven
