yesterday my hubby was painting a window ledge and knocked the pot off hence a huge splash of paint on my lounge carpet and tv. Its egg shell paint which is like gloss but softer

I wont let him touch it incase he makes it worse what can we do.

We are insured but I want to try and remove it first. Woule the insurance pay out for this as it was our fault?

that's the sort of thing insurance is for!

TBH, if you've left it overnight, you'll struggle.

Use whatever you use to wash the brushes- white spirit (or water if it's water soluble). Get as much residue up by rubbing towards the middle of the stain. Then shampoo the carpet.

Then call insurance company

MascaraOHara · 09/06/2008 09:14

Claim on insuarance as accidental damage and treat your self to a new carpet..

JodieG1 · 09/06/2008 09:15

Should have tried to deal with it right away, leaving it this long won't help at all. See if your insurance covers it.

mumma2cjh · 09/06/2008 09:17

Surely the white spirit would damage the carpet?

Also I love my carpet!

Surely the insurance company would send out a carpet cleaning company?

We dealt with our spilt satinwood paint immediately. (Was a 5l pot that got pulled over.) Carpet about 6 months old.
Scraped off as much as we could with spatulas and knives then soaked it in cold water and dabbed off what we could with a dry cloth. And kept on going 'til we'd got most of it out. Then got it professionally cleaned the same day. You can still see it if you look for it, but I think we got away with it. Not sure how you'd get on with it having been there a day, but I'd say take some pics and give it a go. If it doesn't work claim on the insurance.

As others have said, it's probably too late now to sort it.

Insurers will often send someone to try and clean the carpet before shelling out for a new one.

My brother's ex gf did this on purpose once

WendyWeber · 09/06/2008 10:36

My neighbour once managed to fall off her steps (old-fashioned wooden ones, no handle at the top) and her paint pot went flying - it caught the carpet and a chair and the sofa.

She got a new carpet and 2/3 of a new suite from the insurers.

This is the sort of thing accidental damage cover is designed for [wmile]

Ive tried for the last few days to get the paint out - most has come out but its left a white mark but the smell is awful. Im ringing the insurance tomorrow. Im gutted as this carpet was over £1,000 only a few years ago.

Ive also got my family from Australia coming in 2 weeks hence the decorating....Ive been crying all week!

Off subject slightly but I'm interested in why you call it 'my' carpet and not 'our' carpet?

mumma2cjh · 12/06/2008 22:10

Not sure!!! Just a figure of speech I guess

Called insurance today about "OUR" lounge carpet and they are sending someone out Monday! So may get it cleaned/sorted prior to family coming fingers crossed

Our insurance comapany has been brilliant - they are not able to clean spillage so are replacing carpet - shoudl get local company out in 48 hours who will arrange there and then when to fit.

Service has been excellent so may just get it sorted in time.

I just hope the ocmany that comes does give me like for like -
