Quick replies appreciated - about to order heat pump tumble drier!

Need to order tonight. Looking at getting a heat pump tumble drier. No space for a vented one, and husband prefers heat pump to condenser as more economical. Bit worried that they seem very slow though. Any experiences? How long does it take to dry a standard load?

I had one. It was awful. Took forever to dry anything. Never again.

GettingFestiveNow · 22/11/2025 20:39

We have a Beko. Allegedly take s 3.5 hours to get a load of cotton extra-dry. Can't compare because didn't have one before. Which? magazine had calculated it would pay for itself within a year due to energy efficiency compared with a vented dryer. I assume it has, and have no complaints, but as I said I can't compare with anything else. It does have sensors in so will finish sooner if the load is actually dry.

Fourkgtogo · 22/11/2025 20:40

I’m on my second, wouldn’t have anything else. Both have been Samsung - highly recommend them. I don’t find it that slow, a full load of towels take 90 mins. Go for it!

ChipDaleRescueRangers · 22/11/2025 20:40

I have an aeg one and its fantastic. Dries an 8kg load in about 1 hour 50 minutes. It needs to go somewhere in the house though. They dont work well in a garage due to needing warm air to work well.

bartyfum · 22/11/2025 20:40

Mixed so far!

Will have a look at the Samsung - thanks!

Don't do it. There was thread on here saying how awful they are

i got a another good Bosch condenser one instead. Don’t regret it at all

ExquisiteDresses · 22/11/2025 20:44

We're really pleased with ours and it works just fine in a garage even at very low temperatures. The programme we use does take about three hours but that's not a problem for us and it has lots of other options.

Have an AEG. Love it. My first, about 7/8 years ago, was a JL own brand. Didn't love so think they have much improved in that time.

Worriedmrs · 22/11/2025 20:47

I love my Indesit vented one which I currently have but absolutely hated the beko condenser one which I had before this. The condenser one made my shed overheat with vapours resulting in damp walls. It also left the clothes with so many wrinkles that were difficult to iron. In the end, I resorted to half drying in tumble dryer followed by air drying.
My current indesit vented has basic functions but is a dream. No more wrinkles and dries quite fast.
Never had a heated pump dryer but would choose anything over a condenser.

Pepperedpickles · 22/11/2025 20:50

I have had a Samsung heat pump and absolutely hated it. Took absolutely ages to dry a load. I would never have a heat pump again. I just have a basic cheap ish condenser now and just use the rapid 30 min setting a couple of times and it drys well. It may not be quite as cheap as the Samsung but the efficiency and time saved is worth it to me.

YourSnugHazelTraybake · 22/11/2025 20:51

Bloody hated mine, as others said it takes forever to dry a load. Might be ok if it's just a couple, but if you've got kids it just takes too long. Pp said hers is good and takes 90 mins to dry a load, add on an hour for a wash and it's 2 1/2 hours per load to wash and dry! .I've currently got a vented in an outbuilding which is great, but I was much happier with the condenser I got when I sold the heat pump dryer.

flyonthewalllofnumber10 · 22/11/2025 20:52

I had a Candy heat pump for about 8 years, it was ok for drying and cut my electric by half compared to an old vented machine. It was replaced with a Hotpoint 9 kilo heat pump, which I love. Most of the washing is spun on 800, a full machine of mixed items takes about 90 minutes to dry.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 22/11/2025 20:55

I've got a Hoover condenser and it's brilliant - I've just fully dried a full 9kg load of towels in just under an hour.

wonderstuff · 22/11/2025 20:57

I have a Bosch serie 4 that I got about a year ago and I love it. I don’t think it is longer than my old tumbler, a mixed load takes about 2 hours. I trust it not to shrink my clothes, it seems gentler than my tumbler was.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 22/11/2025 21:06

We have a heat pump condenser, it isn't vented.

It's a 10kg load BEKO, we have been impressed with it so far.

AgentPidge · 22/11/2025 21:14

DS absolutely loves his. Yes, it takes longer but you can put anything into it without shrinking, and costs pence to run.

Dearg · 22/11/2025 21:20

Hated mine - a Siemens - I did not have enough hours at home, awake, to get through my washing . I am in Scotland, so possibly use it more frequently than those further south.

It also came with a ‘self cleaning ‘ condenser , which was anything but self cleaning. Yes you can break into them and clean manually, but then the machine loos like you took a can opener to it.

I have a regular condenser now, also Siemens. It’s great.

Ihaveaskedyouthrice · 22/11/2025 22:18

I have a beko. A normal mixed load takes about 2.5 hours. A full 9kg load of towels can take anything up to 6 hours 😭
It's v economical to run but you do need to be prepared for it to be on alot!

ChuffingNoraah · 22/11/2025 22:21

Bosch Serie 6, really excellent. Wouldn’t be without it, we do an astronomical amount of washing and live in an old house so absolutely cannot be drying it all inside in winter. Will buy another the second it eventually gives up the ghost. 4 years so far and not a whisper of bother.

ApisMellifera · 22/11/2025 22:24

I have a Miele heat pump drier. I love it. It doesn't take any longer to dry than a regular drier so long as I keep the filters clean.

NigellaAwesome · 22/11/2025 22:35

I have a Beko 10kg heat pump. I love it. When I start it on the double dry setting it says it will take 3 hours, but often is done after an hour. It has a moisture sensor and turns off automatically. It has been life changing. We got it plumbed in to the condensate pipe so we don’t need to empty the water drawer which makes it handy.

TheendofmrY · 22/11/2025 22:46

I’ve got a Grundig one. I love it. Takes 3 hours to do a full load but that’s never been a problem for me. It has an express setting for if you need just a few bits done in a rush. I don’t have to worry about shrinking things and I can bung in the DCs graphic t-shirts and sweatshirts etc without worrying about damaging the transfers. I feel like things come out less creased as well if I’ve not taken them out straight away.

BakeOffRewatch · 22/11/2025 22:51

I love the heat pump dryer. I don’t think 1.5hrs is long to wait for clothes to dry though - in comparison to drying outside. I hated other dryers as they cooked my clothes, came out all crispy, ruined the fibres and reduced clothes life. The heat pump dryer brings them out almost as if they’d been outside. It depends what’s important to you. I needed a dryer over drying outside and inside and isn’t want one that put my clothes through high temperatures. Most of my loads finish in an hour with the sensors.

BakeOffRewatch · 22/11/2025 22:52

Definitely notice a difference in drying time when I clean filters. I use a microfibre cloth to wipes nooks in the filter pocket. My new one came with a special brush to get fluff out.

FurForksSake · 22/11/2025 22:53

Samsung heat pump, had it a couple of years. We love it. It’s so cheap to run and I don’t find it overly long. We don’t use it for everything, we use a dry soon for the non tumble stuff and dh tends to hang bedding over the banister at the top of the stairs. But for day to day we really like it and don’t regret it at all.
