Hi all, I am fed up of my washing not drying on the line in the winter, so this year I am going to buy a dehumidifier as people rave about them but where do I start?!! Can anyone recommend a good one to help dry clothes please?? (Bonus points if it is from Argos or Amazon!) Thanks

Room normally above or below 17 degrees?

If it’s often below, you need a desiccant. If it’s above, you can use a compressor sensibly.

Usually above 17 degrees. Thank you

I got a Meaco one. I did a lot of research. And this came out as a best buy. It's dessicant so also heats up the room slightly which is needed in my basement kitchen/diner. It works well. Easily transportable thanks to a carry handle. Has a mode for drying washing.

Also got a large Meaco one on recommendation. Removes up to 20L a day. Very happy with it.

Another vote for Meaco! V good!

I've had a Meaco for the last four years. Brilliant machine.

Meaco here too. I have a combined dehumidifier / air purifier version, very happy with it.

Meaco here!

JadeSeahorse · 16/11/2025 13:35

I have the Junior Meaco which is a desiccant with a laundry setting and is fab!

I do have a tumble dryer but just use that for light items which don't take much drying. I use the dehumidifier in conjunction with my large airing cupboard for jeans, coats, heavy tops etc.

CatsorDogsrule · 16/11/2025 13:41

I have an EcoAir, which is dessicant, so it warms up the room too when I run the boosted laundry mode. (I spend a lot of time in the laundry room, which has a tv, sofa and doubles as a den.)

I've got a few. Basically I get what has good reviews and is on special offer. I find them much of a muchness and you get what you expect ( ie bigger more expensive ones remove more excess humidity than the smaller ones,)
I use the smaller ones for everyday use in the damper smaller bedrooms and bigger ones for laundry and the heavy lifting.
Go for a good black Friday deal is my advice

Meaco 20L low energy. It’s great

JMSA · 17/11/2025 01:36

Meaco 👌
I’ve also had EcoAir, which I was very happy with.
In my experience, however, dehumidifiers are not built to last. I seem to only get a few years out of them.

Plantatreetoday · 17/11/2025 01:40

I have about three but they’re in the back kitchen which doesn’t have lighting
Ill find them tomorrow and post pics
All are good
One doesnt have a timer though which is a pain

all bought at B&Q

Bungle2168 · 17/11/2025 01:47

I had a Sharp one. Blew cold air out of the front and hot from the rear, and was quite noisy too. BUT it will dry your clothes.

I stuff desiccants in the closet to keep the mildew at bay, but I should imagine they would be insufficient for drying laundry.

As an anti-condensation measure, I fitted a small extractor fan in the utility room which I run 24/7, though I I have not tried drying laundry in that room.

Obeseandashamed · 17/11/2025 01:59

Meaco here too! It’s great- had it for 3 years with no trouble. Easy to clean the filter etc too
