Mouse in my bedroom terrified to sleep

Lara96 · 06/11/2025 02:05

There is a mouse in my bedroom somewhere and I am literally terrified to go to sleep. I have been decorating so have had bags of rubbish so I assume that’s what attracted it.

Maybe if I try and sleep with the light on.

Poor insomniac mouse

TheSilentSister · 06/11/2025 02:12

Get a cat. Your bestest briest ever

Crankyaboutfood · 06/11/2025 02:15

please get a live trap and release outside. Then find and plug points of entry. The mouse is harmless and terrified no doubt.

TheSilentSister · 06/11/2025 02:15

Give me your address, I can make them disapear.

Myfluffyblanket · 06/11/2025 03:07

They will leave you well alone, truly. Just keep all foodstuffs tidied away and set humane traps.
My neighbour evicted rats from his shed in September and they moved into my house (the rats not the neighbours). Pest control man comes weekly to refresh the bait blocks and is surprised how resistant and persistent they are. He says that this last year he has seen a massive increase in rat and mouse infestation and believes the way we now have to recycle food and other waste has helped cause this.
My brilliant little dog caught one last night under the kitchen cabinets. I am so proud of her.

It’s a bit gross

But as above - it won’t come near you at all. It’s more scared of you than you are of it

Lara96 · 06/11/2025 03:20

How much does pest control cost.

What do you think a tiny defenceless prey animal is going to do to you?

mathanxiety · 06/11/2025 04:01

Buy snap traps. Bait them with Nutella or peanut butter. Put them right by skirting boards.

Clean your kitchen within an inch of its life. Make sure there is no food left anywhere in your home apart from the fridge and pantry in closed containers.

Lift up your hob cover and clean underneath it if there's any way spills or random bits of rice, pasta, etc, can fall under the hob. Clean your oven.

Get cotton balls and put a few drops of peppermint oil in each. Leave them around the house.

Please dont break a tiny rodents back and leave it dying in agony. Let's be a bit better than that, we're not savages now surely.

Ladybird69 · 06/11/2025 05:02

Get a humane trap and put a piece of chocolate in it, mice love chocolate. Then when you catch it drive to the nearest park/field and release it.

Disgusting advice.

OP, please use humane traps.

Releasing a house mouse (clue is in the name) into the wild is not humane. It will die of starvation or, if it's lucky, it'll be killed by a passing cat.

Lara96 · 06/11/2025 05:39

I had a box and it had some clothes in it and it was wet and I have noticed a couple of droppings beside it so going to get some disinfectant later today and clean.

The smell is awful so will need to do a total deep clean.

I must have had a brave mouse then when I had one in the bedroom. It spent the night climbing up my drawers and then would leap off the drawers onto the bed. I admitted defeat when it kept from the bedside table onto my face and went downstairs and slept on the sofa. It didn’t seem scared of me at all!

It's not a house mouse, it's a wild bred mouse that's somehow got into the house. They're resilient little buggers and are quite capable of sourcing food and finding shelter in fields and hedgerows.

thankgoditssaturday · 06/11/2025 06:07

Well make it a little bed and maybe it will be calmer and go off to sleep. Oh sorry did you mean you? Try punctuation!

cantpullthetrigger · 06/11/2025 06:11

I’m generally pretty resilient and not afraid but the rustling and running would bother me. I’d be blocking it in the room overnight and sleeping on the sofa until you can catch it humanely and sleep easy again.

Watch some videos on instagram of mice. They are super sweet and your fear will dissipate. Then set a humane trap but check it regularly. Do not use a small trap, they are barbaric. You don't need pest control for one mouse.

TheGrimSmile · 06/11/2025 06:15

*snap trap

SardinesOnGingerbread · 06/11/2025 06:18

I bought a humane trap (I actually really like mice but not en masse in the kitchen). He pulled some insulation out of the wall and stuffed it inside to make a bed, then the next night had moved it over by the boiler. It was like a little rodent caravan. Didn't have the heart to take it from him so I sawed one end off and gave it to him outside in case he wanted to use it like a wee mouse Centre Parcs.

If there is one mouse there will be more mice . They are prolific breeders .

Release it at Least five miles away as the mouse will come back
