Hi all,

I've got a giant 64L plastic tub here with approx 6 lever arch files of paperwork. Ive had to do a huge clear out due to decorating and I just dont want to go back to how it was. Any suggestions on how to store paperwork?

I could potentially put a cabinet downstairs if needed but id really like to avoid more STUFF!

Do you need it all? And this isn’t telling you to be tough and clear out- if you do need it just keep as is! If you don’t get recycling!

In folders also

We have an old wardrobe that’s been shelved out for office and work related stuff. The printer lives in here also ( cut hole at back for plug). One shelf holds current folders needed.
We have to keep lots of paperwork due to businesses, but anything that isn’t for this year or current we store in loft in plastic boxes

The last few years more has become digital so the amount needed decreasing

It would have to go in my open plan living room though. I have a big desk there too. But loads of paperwork which I need to trawl through and get rid of.

We have a lounge diner and it's up the corner of the dining room, we also have a desk in ours for DH laptop and stuff, It's easy to keep on top of, much easier than the boxes and files I used to keep stuff in.

In a filing cabinet.
When full then things are moved to a 'really useful box' which takes hanging files.
Currently now going back over the boxes throwing out older out of date things.

You could just use a really useful box as a filing area.

We tend to file by tax year, a few things need to be kept much longer and are stored by topic.

I just scan them into my Dropbox then throw the originals away.

We have a spare fitted wardrobe with a shelf unit ..everything is in coloured punched wallets, labelled:

gas/electricity
water
council tax
car

plus loads of others!!

I don’t. We have a few documents, house deeds, wills, car V5, stuff related to parents estates but it’s about one loose leaf folders worth and everything else is electronic. My parents kept decades worth of bank statements and water bills and payslips - I’ve never seen the point.

In the bin mostly. I always sign up for paperless and app options these days.

I have one lever arch file for a handful of letters that I need to keep, and one magazine file for the house deeds/solicitor pack and documents like birth certificates, passports etc. On a shelf in a bookcase.
