Help me to decide. Bread Maker or not?

Our house goes through that much bread (DH a proper bread monster) and it's getting so expensive, plus am getting annoyed with having to go to the shop every bloody day! So I thought a bread maker might be the answer?

If I get one, which one shall I get, there are loads out there, only want a smallish one as out kitchen isn't massive, and it needs to be REALLY easy to use!

Please help me. I'm so not a domestic goddess

Yes I like the fact you know exactly what goes in there and there is only a teaspoon of salt per entire loaf.

Sounds like you are getting one...

I think so, might go and have a browse in town tomorrow!

another vote for the Panasonic here. I thought I'd eat loads more than I do. (OK, the first loaf I baked I pretty much sat down with a tub of butter and scoffed the lot - but a one off! ).

I also find it stays fresher longer than shop bought, less salt etc.

Lidl flour is great for white loaves (about 45p a bag), but I think better quality is necessary for brown. I do a 70% wholemeal/30% white so its not too dense.

The recipies in my panasonic book uses Vitamin C powder, but I haven't used it and its been fine.

Just to say thank you ladies.... Ordered a breadmaker and it came last week, it's FAB! And it makes the house smell yummy!!!

I have a Kenwood and don't use it much but am thinking about starting to use it again. I really think it must save me money as the bread in the shops is so expensive as well as not being very tasty any more

I use mine about 4 times a week. Am on my 3rd, I seem to wear them out. Have had a Kenwood, a Russell Hobbs and now a Murphy Richards.

We don't eat more bread and none of us have got fatter since having one. I guess it depends what you put on the bread. We just eat fresher bread. not sure it's cheaper than bought but I tend to buy the expensive organic flour which costs (I was horrified to realise recently) 3 times the supermarket flour.

Do you have a food processor, OP? If so, don't buy a whole new machine to take up space (sorry if anyone has already suggested it). I make my dough up very quickly in the FP late afternoon (flour, water, yeast, sugar, salt), leave it to rise, and bake it before bed, and we have bread for breakfast... takes 2 hours max and once you get in to the habit it really isn't a chore (honest).

duh - just seen you've already bought one
