Tell me about your dehumidifier

Hi. I need to buy a dehumidifier for faster air drying my laundry. It’ll be 2-3 loads per week and will be in a small laundry room with door closed (about 7ft by 3ft). I want one on wheels and that is fairly quiet and dries fast (like 3-4hrs for a full airer).
I’m quite interested in the Meaco Arête Two 25L because it supposedly dries laundry faster and has a louvre vent that means you can direct the air towards the laundry to help it dry. But it’s £££££s and they trap you into buying filters going forward….
If you have any type of dehumidifier, please tell me if you’d recommend it or not and the pros and cons.
Thank you!

I have the meaco low energy 20 litre one. Have had it for 6 years still going strong. It collects a lot of water quickly, although I wouldn't say it can dry laundry in 4 hours, that is a big ask, but my house is open plan I haven't tried it in a small room.

I have a 10l one I bought from Asda when it was on offer. It’s really speeded up drying, and ours is on a landing so I imagine that in an enclosed space it would work even faster.

That said, 3 - 4 hours is pushing it. A day is more likely.

This is the one I have; it does come in bigger capacity too. Runs quietly. As I said, with the washing hanging over the stairs and the dehumidifier under it, I can dry two loads in just over a day, although the deh is only running in the daytime.

I don’t think you need a spendy one - just one that has the basics eg wheels / laundry mode / biggish tank so you’re not emptying every 2 hours.

I have the smallest Meaco Arete, apparently exclusive to John Lewis. £179.99. It was recommended in an article in something like House & Garden.

I love it! I'm single, in a tiny 1 bedroom house so may do less laundry than you. It lives at the top of my stairs, near the bathroom, so I also run it when I shower. My laundy mostly dries overnight (Cotton jumpers no) and I empty hugely satisfying amounts of water down the sink, rather than letting the moisture float around and start mould colonies . So glad I bought it rather than a warm drying rack.

Ooh, and it has an excellent, simple user interface and switches off automatically when it needs to. Good luck.

We have this one - we use it in a small bedroom with heated airer and normal airer. It’s v effective. Probably not 3-4 hours though by itself, though teamed with the heated airer that’s entirely possible. It makes a big difference and reduces damp.
It’s v simple to use and quiet too. Turn it on, set the required humidity level and leave it. When the tank gets full it stops - if I’ve just hung loads up before bed, the tank is generally nearly full by morning, occasionally already full. It’s smaller than our shredder, wheels around easily.

I have an Arete with the laundry function and its great, really aids the drying process.

We have this one and it is fabulous. The water bucket is huge so we can dry a full load without having to empty it in between. It's compact and not too noisy (we certainly don't notice it) I've taken out the filter and washed it but haven't had to replace it at all. Very cheap to run. I would be lost without it.

Portable Dehumidifier, Extracts 20 Litres per Day

For any medium sized rooms, this energy efficient dehumidifier extracts up to 20l moisture from the air, ideal for drying laundry whilst saving on energy bills.

If you have a heated airer and dehumidifier going in a small room you could dry a load in 3 hours (probably not thick jumpers or jeans but normal shirts / tshirts would dry).
