As title suggests really?

by furniture I mean the bigger stuff like beds, sofa, chest of drawers, wardrobes etc.

Probably once a month but sometimes longer if I cba. There’s never much dust/dirt under/behind the furniture anyway, so I don’t personally feel the need to do it more often.

Catsandcwtches · 25/10/2025 14:31

Maybe once a year! But some furniture I keep pulled away from the wall enough to get a hoover wand behind the back so that helps.

Catsandcwtches · 25/10/2025 14:32

Sofas I pull out much more often as they are easy to move. I can’t move my bookcases without removing all the books first which is a big job

CheeseWineFigs · 25/10/2025 14:34

Large lumps of furniture (sideboard, bookcases etc) are attached to the walls, so not once in 20 years. Everything else - every 6 months to yearly

FullOfLemons · 25/10/2025 14:43

Twice a year … when clocks change.

That’s a good reminder! I might steal that!

Seems like 6 monthly is a good shout. I can move sofa pretty easy and bedtime tables. Big bookcases, chest of drawers etc are heavy! I feel like I should be doing more but good to know others aren’t.

Not as often as I should judging by what was behind everything when we had to move everything for decorating recently!

CraftyGin · 25/10/2025 15:05

Sofas - only if I've moved them to find something that I've lost. Bedroom furniture - never.

But I do cook all my meals from scratch...

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 25/10/2025 15:05

I can't move my bed, we had to build it in the room and there's absolutely no wiggle room to move it more than about six inches. The rest of the furniture, maybe three, four times a year? But downstairs is tiled flooring, so easy to move the furniture or clean under without moving.

Changename12 · 25/10/2025 15:32

My husband moves all the downstairs furniture when he does the big vacuum (every other week). I do smaller vacuums in between. The sofas are on castors so they are fairly easy to move.
We turn all the mattresses every 3 months and when we do this we pull the beds out and vacuum underneath them. All the wardrobes are built in. There are a couple of chest of drawers in bedrooms that we haven’t moved for a few years!

😂👏👏👏

well this was us - until I realised how filthy and dusty things were. Now I’m trying to be better - but not sure what was the norm.

Ooh - not heard of a big vacuum before! How long does that take? (Sorry just being nosey now!).

The only time I ever move sofas or beds is when we re decorate a room. So maybe every 4-5 years…! There’s no way I can move them myself and dh wouldn’t want to do it regularly.

IvePiercedMyFootOnASpike · 25/10/2025 21:14

I've got one of those dusters on a long handle. I use that under our bed and the American fridge freezer etc. things that are hard to move regularly.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/10/2025 22:27

Very little of my furniture is movable.
The sideboard under at least 240kg of fishtank has not moved in many years!

I'll move smaller items like side tables, but most is too big, too heavy or secured (e.g. shelves/ drawers) to move.

Nothing bad has happened from it 🤷‍♀️

Never

k1233 · 25/10/2025 22:38

If it's on legs, the robo vac zips under and keeps everything spiffy. If it's flat to the floor, no dust builds up underneath. Highly recommend the robo vac!

A handy hint if you get one. It's taken me years to realise I didn't need to be home while it trundled around. Now it does it's cleaning at 10 am while I'm at work and I come home to spick and span floors. I know - sometimes I'm not the brightest crayon in the box...

Pharazon · 25/10/2025 22:43

Never

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 25/10/2025 23:17

Our bed not a chance it's so bloody heavy and minimal gap underneath.
Other stuff now and then.

Needspaceforlego · 26/10/2025 00:34

Sofas and other easy to move stuff once a month.
Stuff thats a pain to move about every 6 mths.
But theres a media unit in the living room that only moves for the painter.

MolvolioPortesque · 26/10/2025 00:44

Heavy stuff that can be moved, annually on a spring clean. We made the mistake of buying a heavy sofa without wheels. Our last one was lighter and had wheels so easily moved. This one has very little space underneath it so doesn’t really get dirty or dusty, luckily.
some wardrobes, never.

It takes him about 3 hours but he he very thorough. He also removes the sofa cushions and vacuums them and behind radiators etc. I call it the big vacuum because he uses the big vacuum. I have a small vacuum. We are retired.
