Tell me what's great about your cordless vacuum cleaner make & model...

...or why I should avoid it! Our old cheap Aldi model has stopped working properly so I've been looking online for a new one and (as usual) am getting overwhelmed with the choices. I'm not considering a Dyson, however great they are, but would love any other recommendations.

House is carpeted throughout with a few long haired humans living in it so a vacuum that deals really well with hair and fluff is essential. I'd prefer a bagless model that is really easy to empty and maintain and preferably without a filter that requires washing every week - is that even possible or am I deluded?

We can pay up to £200, or maybe a little over if it's worth it. I'm quite interested in a Shark because the 5 year guarantee makes me think it's well built, anyone know if that's the case?

Thanks in advance, my head is full of hyperbolic vacuum cleaner descriptions and I need it to stop!! 😱

Vax blade.
I have arthritis in my wrists and hands and it’s light enough for me to do the whole house at once with no issues.
Good suction.
I would get the one with the spare/two battery packs when this one breaks though, just because doing a deep clean (behind drawers, moving beds etc) means the battery does die on me.
I have a spare set of filters so can have a clean set when I’ve washed one and am waiting for it to dry (only a day) easy to empty, quick to charge.

I had a Shark and absolutely hated it. The wheels constantly got clogged with hair (despite the supposed anti wrap technology) It also released loads of contents when it wasn't in use. I've got a cheap 10 meter corded one from Amazon now and it blows the Shark out the water (pardon the pin)

Thank you both, I really appreciate your thoughts. I hadn't looked at any Vax models so far @ThisBadTimeIsTakingForever so I'll check that one out. And thanks for telling about the Shark @Plump82 - that's exactly the kind of thing I need to know! Also love the pun, even if unintentional! 😂

Tbf, I have a household with lots of long haired people, and I do have to frequently cut hair out of the brush bar, but I’d get that with any hoover just because of the amount of hair we all shed! I’m glad I didn’t pay out for anti hair wrap technology then if it doesn’t work.

I’ve also got a shark, loved it to start with, really really good at picking up hair but basically has a massive tantrum at picking up anything else, and yes often have to stop to detangle/ cut the hair out the annoying little wheels on the side. They’re not cheap either, def avoid.

Right the Shark is definitely getting crossed off my list! Thanks @statetrooperstacey that's really helpful

I didn’t like my Dyson, short battery life
i have a corded shark but went for a vax cordless for every day and I really like it. The container is quite small but 45 mins battery and it does better than my shark on hard floors

cordeliabuffy · 04/10/2025 20:35

This is the one I got - don’t forget prime big deal days are coming up so might be worth hanging on

I bought a Sixpad S80 with a spare battery. I love it. Good mix of tools, well balanced and light, collects all the hair, and I can do a 4 bed house, mix of tiles and carpet, on two batteries.

I thought the dust bucket would be too small but it isn't.

DarkForces · 04/10/2025 20:56

I hate my Shark. It needs constant attention to work, one of its batteries is shot and the spare is dying. Replacing them is expensive. It smells a bit funny when I hoover now... I got the cheapest bagless upright I could find on Amazon and usually use that now!

I’ve got the Henry Quick pet which is really good, it’s not the lightest but has very good pick up and I like the disposable pods it comes with

MiseryIn · 04/10/2025 22:44

I also have the Henry quick. I’ve had Dyson and Shark before. Liked the Dyson but won’t but Dyson anymore for political reasons, didn’t get on with the shark at all.

Henry is pretty decent. Lasts a while on each charge and picks up loads. does need hair removing regularly but that seems to be standard.

That's the same reason I won't buy a Dyson @MiseryIn 😏
It's interesting how many people have found the Shark vacuums to be so rubbish - I totally thought they were a great brand, based on zero personal experience mind you! I know Henry's are good but I am put off by having to buy disposable bags for their stick vacuum...

I have the Samsung Jet 95 Pro. It is a Which? best buy and I love it.
