Plastic melted on glass hob - help!

I accidentally dropped a bread bag onto a hot hob and it melted instantly. I’ve tried everything I can think of to get it off - razor blade scraper, different cleaning products, a sticky stuff remover from Amazon etc. It’s such a fine layer that there’s nothing to scrape - you can’t even feel it with your finger.

Any ideas?! We are in a rental and really need to sort this.

The glass scraper should sort the worst of it out, I'd then use Pink Stuff paste to remove the rest and then a good wipe over with a hot microfibre cloth

Thanks! Will try the pink stuff paste.

Whats worrying me is I can’t even feel a film or anything to scrub / scrape!

Magic sponge would be my first try

minipie · 03/10/2025 22:10

Actually maybe don’t try magic sponge as it may scratch

this has some better ideas

You might need to call in an oven cleaning firm.

I would warm.the hob, but not too much and then try a scraper designed for a glass hob
( a razor blade may scratch the glass)

That's what I was thinking too, maybe warm it up with a hair dryer instead of putting the hob on

Good idea. The hair dryer is more controllable.

Make a paste of bicarb ( baking soda if you're American) and wsshing up liquid .
Lesve for a few minutes .
Clean.

EnglishRain · 04/10/2025 07:04

You could try things like acetone too.

The guy fitting a cat flap to a double glazed window said this
Bohle Professional Glass Cleaner 600ml : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive https://share.google/CrxSZrmoGDGhRhbSZ
is there best glass cleaner he's found.
Maybe give that a try ?
