Looking at getting a dehumidifier for the winter when I will have wet laundry on the Airer. Are they worth getting? If so Any recommendations please?

Definitely worth getting. You will be surprised how much water comes out of wet laundry.
I'd recommend a Meaco.

Also echo getting a Meaco. I use it just for my laundry and it’s great.

I also have a Meaco and would recommend it. it really speeds up drying washing .

It’s almost frightening to see how much water it collects from drying washing-I know that sounds like stating the obvious-because otherwise it would be going into the fabric of the house.

We recently got a Meaco 20litre one - very effective in hallway. House feels warmer and less clammy in the evenings.

We have this one https://amzn.eu/d/gyWysPb
It’s really excellent, auto shuts off when you reach desired humidity, or when the tank is full. We use it in the small bedroom where we dry washing.
If we needed one for a larger space I’d go for a bigger model. But this is perfect for a contained space.

eta - it definitely speeds our washing drying time considerably. Maybe halves it, or close. And it’s so satisfying pouring all that water away and knowing it would otherwise be making the room all damp.

Definitely worth it if you dry laundry inside.
At the moment I'm hanging laundry outside if it's dry and over 10°c and then in tje evening I bring it inside to finish off with the dehumidifier.
If it's wet or too cold then I put on the machine on an extra spin cycle and put it on the drying rack with the dehumidifier in the smallest room and shut the door.

We have 2 - an older one with a dial for controlling humidity in the living room & kitchen and then the laundry one with a digital panel for upstairs.

Definitely worth getting & another vote for Meaco. Surprising how much water comes off it & really speeds up drying.

ThirdStorm · 30/09/2025 15:57

Another vote for Meaco, and my one has a laundry function which is ideal. It absolutely speeds up drying. I've not noticed my electric consumption go crazy either.

Thank you. Wasn’t sure of the running cost so good to know.
All comments are positive and everyone has recommended getting one so definitely will look into one.
Out of interest would a heated airer be another option? I only dry clothes indoors over the winter, I do have a tumble dryer that only gets used over winter for light items and underwear.

We have both. Heated airer helps dry things more quickly, but it also accelerates the moisture release as a result. So the double whammy is extremely efficient.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 30/09/2025 21:35

Yes you need a humidifier even more if you have a heated airer.
i bought one off eBay - British heart foundation (I think) had some new without boxes for some reason so I got that, it’s great.

That’s great to know, thank you. May start off with the dehumidifier and see how I get on then possibly get a heated airer.
