Heated Airers

My tumble dryer has packed up after almost 15 years & I looking for alternatives means of drying.

What are your experiences/thoughts on heated airers? How do they deal with heavy items like jeans?

I've never owned a tumble drier, and have used clothes horses/a heated airer instead.

They do work for heavy items, but obviously it takes longer than a tumble drier. I lie the waistbands of jeans over two bars of the drier, and they only take an hour-ish longer than other items.

You do need to be strategic - you can't be doing 3 loads of washing on a Sunday and expecting to get it all dried.

If you get one with a cover or stick a bed sheet over the top it does dry quicker (and if you happen to have a cat, mine loves to sit inside...).

Mine is approx 8 years old from Lakeland, still works as well as it did new, and there's not a huge energy cost difference on days I use it.

We have a dribuddy, it has a cover and you hang things on hangers in it, it fits quite a lot, and the cycle can run for up to 3 hours. I find jeans are dry with a full other load in it on the 3 hour go, if it's just tops or light items I'll put it on for less. A godsend when the weather is crap as we don't have a tumbledryer.
