Really boring plug in / smells /allergy q

Does anyone with allergies have a good home freshener scent, maybe a plug in, that doesn't flare them? I used to have vaporisers but was allergic to the lovely m&s scents. I seem to be ok with ferbreeze spray. I already have the windows open daily, but it always smells a bit stale withbpet birds and young kids. Is there something mild and not over powering out there that anyone swears by please? Prefer not to use candles due to small kids.

For allergy reference, I have 2 air filter machines (required since we got the birds), and me and dd have issues with carpet shampoo, dust, wrong laundry detergent, etc. Hives for her, facial leaking for me.

'Fresheners' only mask smells, they don't remove them. There must be a solution that doesn't involve you exposing yourself to airborne chemicals as well as the other irritants. Have you tried keeping windows open and regularly wiping surfaces with diluted vinegar? Making sure pets only sleep on their own beds or rugs which are frequently washed? Keeping the birds in an area you can shut the door on? Planting pots of rosemary or lavender around the house?

Get a robot hoover for the house. Empty it daily - you'll be appalled. Makes a massive difference to smells and dust.

A small container of bicarb sprinkled with lavender oil (or your preferred essential oil) in a couple of places to freshen the air.
I read somewhere on MN about sprinkling a bit of cinnamon on the floor when hoovering masks pet smells.

Essential oils. Natural not chemicals. Sniff them in a shop if they have testers if you immediately know you will have issues with them.

I think it’s the birds

This. And if you surely already have allergies you are risking developing further ones by using products like this. Fragrance allergies can be life-limiting (as in they limit your life and whet you can do, rather than in the terminal illness sense!). It can be difficult to see friends, go on holiday or go to certain venues. Even shopping for things can be hazardous. Don’t risk it by sensitising yourself through regular use at home.

I don’t use any fragrances at home and have pets. And used to have children. My house doesn't smell. You need to open windows daily, keep everything clean, and if you have a dog (which can be very smelly) you need to wash the dog frequently. If there’s build up in carpets etc to get rid of get a carpet cleaner. You can use Delphis multi purpose cleaner which is fragrance free in carpet cleaners (I wouldn’t hire one as there will be fragrance chemicals in them even if you use your own cleaner). I use this on my floors and in my carpet cleaner. It works well.

Good luck.

I have a eufy robot who runs daily (dh has to empty it, the dust sets me off for the rest of the day), and 2 carpet shampooers (big and spot) that are used often. Only budgies as pets due to my allergies (nothing after these due to new bird allergy...), windows opened daily for hours. Bulk buy white vinegar for surfaces/cleaning.

Maybe it's just my nose and appreciating pleasant smelling homes. No one has ever said anything, visitors think our home is very clean. No mould issues, we have 2 dehumidifiers.

Some hotel keepers use panty liners, dabbed with an essential oil, on the underside of bin lids and the back of paintings / wall hangings.

otherwise - how about fresh flowers? And lavender?
