My house is grubby

Just as the tittle says really, the house is grubby, not messy, things generally have a home & overall I’m quite good as chucking stuff out. But it’s just not clean. Examples; while socks will be dirty just from walking around the house, skirting boards aren’t just dusty, the paint has chipped so you can see the wood in places, just grubby, the walls are covered in scuff marks, dirty finger prints but I don’t want to take the paint off by scrubbing them & make it look even worse, the taps are covered in limescale even though I feel like I regularly clean them. What’s worst is that the house was new when we moved in 7 years ago so I can’t even blame the previous owners. How can I undo it, how can I learn to clean my house properly and prevent it getting worse I’m not sure how much I truck TikTok “hacks”.

Citric acid is great for limescale and a magic sponge works on scuff marks. Sounds like the place needs to be redecorated.

If you moved in 7 years ago, and you have never painted the skirting boards, then they are due for a re-paint.
Same with walls etc.
When you paint, pay more for washable/scrubable paint. You can get it in a matt finish, so it doesn't look like washable paint, but then you can wash it hard.
I have spray flash and a wash-up sponge and I scrub the landing/stairwell walls with that. It is amazing how clean it comes. But that is on the base of scrubable paint. And you need 2 good coats of paint.

If it doesn't need re-decorating, then 'spring clean' move the furniture, take everything apart (books off bookshelves etc) and thoroughly clean everything.
Including paint, on doors and walls. Do one room at a time.

I think you need to redecorate. Give all the skirting boards a clean and then paint them. Repaint the walls. Move the furniture and clean behind it.
I decorated my house 2/3 years ago and it's got scuffs and dirty marks already so I think yours is definitely overdue.

Thank you, I think time goes by so quickly that I still consider it quite a “new” home when actually it’s been lived in by 4 people for 7 years so isn’t going to look like it did on move in day. Going to insta some ideas for decorating now.

I agree with 2 coats of scrubbable paint and doing one room at a time. That’s just how we’re tackling our house at the moment Smile

I feel the same! I live in an old house and feel like it’s always dusty! Also I haven’t properly decorated in years… have done bedrooms/ new kitchen etc but the hallways and landings haven’t been painted in years.

I have started to ‘spring clean’ one room at a time , Ive dedicated every other weekend to focus on one room. I do clean other rooms, to be clear, but I mean an extra deep clean in the specific room that weekend. I google tasks as they come up, like limescale/ scuffed floorboards etc.

im also plotting redecoration. Again, this will be one room/area at a time. I’m going to use scrubbable paint as I didn’t do this last time.

its actually quite exiting and has made me love my home even more. I think I’ve just got used to seeing the scratches/scuffs , and don’t have much time or money to devote to the house.

Wearing slippers would avoid Grubby socks and also getting the floors Grubby in the first place.
