Induction hob filth!

1 week after induction hob being installed (flush mounted), this is what it looks like. How do I clean this gap? Google says cloth around a spatula, but I truly cannot be arsed with that on a daily basis. Is there a gadget? Please tell me there’s a gadget!

Pipe cleaners?!

Bicyclista · 13/08/2025 20:00

That’s not fitted correctly. There shouldn’t be a gap under the glass top.

shellyleppard · 13/08/2025 20:01

An old toothbrush should get in the cracks. Or wrap a cleaning cloth round a wooden skewer??

fluffiphlox · 13/08/2025 20:03

That is not fitted correctly. It should be absolutely flush. Get them back to sort it out.

SwayingInTime · 13/08/2025 20:18

Mines a bit like this and I googled it and it said it was meant to be like that and you shouldn't seal it!

Like there isn't a gap but the shapes of the glass means stuff gets under there?

LuckysDadsHat · 13/08/2025 20:22

I use a tooth brush. It takes seconds to do.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 13/08/2025 20:25

Mine looked like that when it was first fitted, but they were supposed to have sealed it. DH did it in the end.

When I had mine fitted a few years ago I was told it should not be sealed but I insisted because I could tell I would be faced with this problem!

The silicone seal has never caused a problem.

Mine (fast approaching 20) was fitted with a stainless steel trim around it. It's fitted into a granite worktop. There is a very fine line of clear sealant between the stainless steel and the granite. It still looks like new.

Yes, our husband sealed ours after a new fit from Wren and they had to come back and do some adjustments, and told him he shouldn't have sealed it.

He sealed it for this exact reason and we've left it that way!

Thanks. I’ve emailed Bora…

My induction hob didn’t look like that.

When our systems are installed flush mounted, we recommend using a silicon joint. It's not mandatory but very well recommended.

Who was saying it shouldn’t be sealed and why?

And those who have sealed it - did you just use standard clear silicon? Thanks!

This exactly if fitted correctly you shouldn’t have a gaping gap like this.

Thingamebobwotsit · 14/08/2025 08:32

Toothbrush. V quick and easy.

littleburn · 14/08/2025 08:34

Mines not completely flush, the edge sits on the counter rather than sunk to the same height as it. It may be the angle of the photo, but yours looks quite a bit higher than that?

I do get a few crumbs between the edge and the counter and run a wet toothpick down the side to keep it clean, as that’s the only thing that gets in the slight gap. But I don’t need to do it daily!

DeafLeppard · 14/08/2025 08:56

Not fitted correctly.

ProcrastinatorsAnonymous · 14/08/2025 11:39

It would be super helpful if people saying it’s not fitted correctly could tell me how it is supposed t be fitted? Is the hole in the quartz too big? Does it need sealant? What should I be asking them to do? I just asked for it to be fitted flush and expected it to be done correctly…

Yours looks like it has a lip that stands proud of the work surface, which is where the gap is and that’s where all the crud is getting. I’ve had 2 induction hobs. The first was perfectly flush with the worksurface; you could put a spirit level across the hob and worksurface and it was perfectly horizontal. The hole cut for the hob was fractionally larger than the hob, and there was a fine bead of sealant (you can get coloured ones to match the hob or worksurface) between the hob and the worktop. There was literally no gap for any dirt to get into.

Our current hob stands slightly proud of the worktop, but there is a metal edge around the glass hob surface that is flush with the worktop, so only very very tiny crumbs occasionally get between the metal edge and the worktop. It’s not an everyday occurrence.

If your hob is designed to be fitted flush, it looks like they haven’t cut the hole large enough to sink the hob in, so the lip I see in the picture stands proud.

DeafLeppard · 14/08/2025 11:54

And this is what our current one looks like - the first frame in the video shows you a hob not completely flush, but there are no gaps for dirt:

Mine is sealed with clear silicone around it to avoid that
