Cleaning grout

We had a new en-suite fitted a year ago. The tile company told me not to use bleach. What can I use to bring the light grey back for the grout between the tiles and what can I use on the grout near the shower bottom!? Just noticed how dirty it is around the metal top 🤢🤮 The tile company recommended the pink stuff and I have been using their bathroom cleaner and floor cleaner. Any suggestions how to get the black speckles off and the light grey grout back please?

Around the shower tray, is that not silicone sealant as opposed to grout? With black mould marks which are notoriously difficult to get rid of. Try one of those mould remover sprays, you need to let it sit a while and reapply until the stains disappear. Some are better than others. I will try and remember which one I used that actually worked, it was recommended on MN.
If it doesn't work, you will have to replace the silicon strip.

For flooring grout, make a paste of bicarbonate of soda with very little water and brush it over the grout with a small brush, like a stiff hard nail brush. It comes up as new but takes a while.

Wow thanks so much. The bicarbonate and water worked a treat on the tiles! Thanks @Branster

Yay! I'm pleased you did it.
I cannot remember the exact mould removal spray I used 😔
I know I tried a few and one in particular was recommended here on MN and it did work. Could be Dettol maybe? or something completely different. I did reapply throughout an entire day and it had a strong smell. But it was miraculous. Keep the windows open, close the bathroom door and don't allow any kids or pets in there because it smells very strongly of bleach.

HG mould remover. It’s evil stuff wear gloves and open the window. It’s bloody brilliant though.

troppibambini6 · 09/08/2025 17:34

Spray leave for an a hour and it will be back to new.

Branster · 09/08/2025 21:31

It may well be the HG stuff, I remember buying that as well. Tried too many. I thought I made a note of it somewhere for future reference but no record of anything, as if it never happened.

For the silicone seal saturate cotton wool pads with bleach, press them on all the way along, leave overnight. Remove the next morning and voila…it will be pure white, or as close as, again!

Aspidistree · 10/08/2025 10:54

My chemistry knowledge is a bit creaky but check the active ingredients. The HG is very effective but IIRC the active ingredient is just sodium hypochlorite, which is bleach.

Betheadore · 10/08/2025 12:01

If you can't use bleach, I'd say scrape out the silicone and re do. Maybe with a darker colour.
Then you'd be best not to let any mould build up on the new silicone.

AuntieDolly · 10/08/2025 12:26

Silicone is a nightmare! Once it’s started you’ll never been able to get rid. For grout cleaning I like sugar soap spray

ayepecking · 10/08/2025 21:30

OP, you just need to dry it and ventilate your shower room after you have a shower. We had ours done 10 years ago and it still looks brand new cos I do that.
