Chaos!

I live in chaos. My life feels really chaotic. I am forever tidying up, chasing my tail, rushing around to get that last minute birthday present.:.,

is this normal? I’ve decided that I am going to get organised this month - NOW! & bring calm into my life and room for fun.

Organised people, please tell me how you do it? Do you have a cleaning schedule? A room a day? A day or time slots set aside in the week to deal with life admin?

What do you do if you miss a day? Move it all along a day? Leave it until next week? Any tips?

I am your exact opposite! so I will tell you what I do. I have a short term list of things to do, and a long term list of bigger projects. I have calendar alerts for all birthdays, a week or two before. I have a small stash of gifts for kids if needed. I have a regularly stocked up card collection covering all needs (sympathy, thank you, birthday). I have a cleaner once a week. Everything has a place in our home and gets put back there. I declutter ruthlessly and regularly. I try not to leave a room without straightening it up. Very occasionally I send all our laundry out to be washed and dried if it’s built up after a holiday. I think that’s everything!

That sounds like excellent advice - thank you. I definitely need to declutter & the tip about setting reminders I’m going to try too.

Hello.
I don't keep things that I don't need or use anymore. I am ruthless about either selling them or donating them to charity shops. Anything utterly useless gets taken to the dump if it's big, or simply put in the bin if it's small.

DH and I have a routine for chores and we try to stick to it. I have certain days when I do certain things - for example today is Friday, so I empty all the waste paper baskets in the house, and clean the bathroom really thoroughly. I clean the sink every day, of course, but I deep clean the bathroom once a week.

DH does all the floors, daily. So he mops the kitchen and bathroom floors, and hoovers all the carpets every day.

I do all the washing because I'm better at it. He does all the gardening because he's better at that. He also takes the big bins out.

I shop online and he either collects it, or it's delivered.

I dust and polish every Saturday throughout the house, and we change the bed between us then, too.

I never need to tidy up because nothing is ever untidy.

When the children were small we tidied up their toys once they'd gone to bed.

I make sure that the sitting room is ready for occupation the next day before I go to bed. I plump up the cushions and take any mugs and plates through.

I never leave washing up till the morning. DH does all the washing up after dinner (I cook) but anything we use during the evening gets washed up before I go to bed.

Your best bet is to do a thorough, ruthless declutter before you try to implement a routine.

I would say that being absolutely on top or everything does involve being constantly on it. I don’t sit down much. So maybe it’s not ideal in every respect…
