While I was eating my tea I saw a mouse under my settee. It has now escaped and I don't know where it is??!!
First point, is it any danger to my ds?? He is 3 and has only just got over chickenpox so may be susceptible to infections etc.
Also I am scared if I have an infestation or if one has scurried in. It is an old house...
What do I do?? I can't find the bugger!!
Can it go up stairs????

I'd lend you my cat...but she doesn't like strangers.
Yes, the buggers can get anywhere.
If you have no cat either get a humane trap
OR
tip from my elderly dad: corner it somewhere and get the suction hose of the hoover and suck it onto the hose end and then pop the hose end outside and switch off the hoover, mouse drops off.

Our cat has brought in 2 shrews today (tahnkfully dead by the time they made it into the house) & I managed to intercept her bringing a dead mouse in. Nice

I didn't realise how small they were... I'll never sleep knowing the little blighter is scurrying around!

no it just means it's squeezed its way in being nosey & looking for a nice warm corner

Thanks whizzz. DH is away at the moment so bit out of my depth. DS is quite excited at the prospect of seeing mr mouse...

I would put a box near where you last saw it so it can crawl in (make it nice & cosy) - then you can scoop the box up if it goes in &take it outside

noooo!!!!!

llareggub · 27/05/2008 19:25

We had one recently. DS loved it! We used humane traps which were pretty in effective, to be honest.

cheekymonk · 27/05/2008 19:28

Oh right, intersting that they are no good. I plan to ring council tomorrow. I have only seen one so far and no real evidence of any more so will see what they say. Thanks llareggub

We zapped ours with an old-fashioned, mean trap that killed the poor thing. We agonised over it but couldn't risk an infestation.

We think he got in via the back door, and haven't seen any sign of his family. He was living underneath our gas fire, probably living on the bits of toast that DS likes to feed through the gaps.

Will they come out for a solitary mouse ?

cheekymonk · 27/05/2008 20:00

Prob not but thought they might give best advice really.
