Hi , sounds disgusting but I’ve developed a terrible rash on my legs been to the dr and prescribed strong meds antihistamines etc
we have a Vispring mattress which we stripped this morning and put the linen in a hot wash
i got the hoover out and to my horror seen a moving carpet beetle 🪲 there must be more than one in our bedroom. Oh bought bed bug spray this morning. I just feel like throwing the mattress
The thing is these critters could be else where in our bedroom the carpet isn’t wool but the mattress is

any advice in know that they don’t bite humans but just the thought of insects in my bed makes me ill

Hi, my new house had these when I moved in. I had the Council pest control out as I didn't know what they were, He said that they don't treat carpet beetles as there's an effective over-the-counter spray that works. You need to hoover the floors thoroughly then spray along the skirting every 4 weeks. He said there would gradually be less and less until they were gone. I've been doing this for 6 months and only see a few dead ones per week. The spray is called Doff Ant & Crawling Insect Killer Spray. Hope this helps.

We’ve never had anything like this before my legs are full of irritation from them apparently they don’t bite like bed bugs , I’ve been reading that my rook needs blitzing even inside the Wardrobe
these critters are so small I just seen it by chance but apparently there’s probably more than one that we haven’t found

We have had these in our bedroom. We thoroughly vacuumed every nook and cranny then sprayed the carpet( especially next to the skirting boards) with some stuff we bought off Amazon- this was then repeated every three months and we seem to have got rid of them . The secret is to be consistent - keep up with the treatment every three months and this breaks the life cycle.

Thankyou which product did you use please?

I gave you the name of the product the pest control guy said was best to use in my earlier post. Also he said there will be a lot more that you can't see and that you have to treat all the floors. Also are you sure it's carpet beetles as the ones I had weren't tiny or hard to see?

PickAChew · 20/07/2025 00:48

They're not that small. About the size of a red lentil.

As PP's have said, you just have to be more persistent than they are. Moth killer sachets are effective in storage boxes, drawers, etc and keep on top of the vacuuming a d spraying.

Iron your bedding which will kills all eggs and bugs.

We've always had a few caarpet beetles about, and I haven't worried about them tbh. But then we are not allergic. Getting rid of two sheepskin rugs seems to have helped. We do have wool carpets everywhere though.

Cloths moths on the other hand...... I am battling. Sheepskin rug again a prime source of the issue.

For both yes, consistency. Lots of vacuuming under and around everything. I haven't used sprays much, only once on the cloths moth infestation of a wardrobe. Since, I have used the traps out and about, the hangers for the wardrobes, which are insecticides, and the small tabs you put in the drawers. I also pick and squash any and everything I find in the house.......

They are a nightmare and what with the hot weather we’ve had there are all sorts of insects
We had a deep clean yesterday & sprayed everywhere and I still woke up with a reaction spot
