How to get rid of stains on the underside of my toilet seat?

Help! My toilet s not dirty, but there’s discolouration on the underside of the seat that I’d love to try and get rid off. I know I need to replace it but that’s not an option in the next couple of days and my MIL is coming to stay! Is there anything I can use to scrub these away? Usual toilet cleaner has not worked…

The pink stuff in a tub. Got fake tan off a white toilet seat with very little effort.

Those magic erasers sponges will remove if plastic. It does remove a tiny layer of plastic I think. It seems to stain easier but I just keep on top of it so stays white.

Is the seat white plastic?
Try Cif/Jif. Use a mild scouring pad.
A bit of neat bleach on a cloth wiped & left to do its work?
It might need consistent effort & more regular attention to detail even after MIL has departed.

Miaow! 😄

Pink stuff cleaner if you can get hold of it in the time you have.
Baking soda mixed with white vinegar into a paste.
And believe it or not, Vanish for whites mixed to a paste with water.

I find that timescale remover often works with stained plastic.

Cillit bang. Spray on and leave for a few minutes then wipe over, it’s strong though and smells bad so open some windows.

The modern white toilet seats don't like bleach and it can cause the discolouration marks. I spoke to a toilet seat company about it and they said if you read the packaging the seat comes in when new it says not to use bleach or bleach based products on them! 😮

Bicarbonate of soda has worked for me on a white plastic seat

SapatSea · 17/07/2025 21:07

Be careful with bleach or cleaners with added bleach- If the seat has a white coating over wood then bleach causes yellow discolouration and seeps into litttle abrasions and cracks in the surface of the coating. It looks like yellow urine staining and isn't! and can't be undone.

I tried all the things suggested in this thread in the past except tinfoil and bleach.

Nothing worked.

I have a Duravit seat white ‘plastic’ on the instructions from when it was fitted it said: Do not use bleach as it will cause staining.

Hopefully MIL will not lift the seat and check 😬

I take my toilet seat off once a week a soak it in the bath with some bleach ( cold water) it comes up pristine.

olderthanyouthink · 20/07/2025 12:50

Put it in a bucket or bath or bleach
