Alternatives to the bloo cistern blocks

I find them amazing and give the toilet a bit of a clean after every flush. Without them i would have to clean the toilet more than once a day to keep it fresh. But the toilet started leaking and the plumber said it was the bloo cistern blocks causing the rubber seal to erode. He said anything that goes in the toilet bowl is fine but anything that goes in the cistern isn't. Any suggestions of anything that is just as good?

Yes I had the exact same issue and the Plumber told me likewise. The bleach rots the ball-cock I presume.
Never used one since and it was probably around 20 years ago.

I didn't like the sticky cage free ones (toilet Duck?)
I just use any old 'cage' ones. Lidl, Tesco or even harpic if I'm feeling.. Flush 🫣

Ooo, I’m so glad I came across this thread. I was wondering earlier today, when I plopped a bloo into the cistern, if the residue left by the wrapping will end up causing damage and blocking the flow of water. I’m now paranoid that my toilet will start leaking! I’ve been using the cistern blocks for 3 years, is my toilet doomed? Shall I go fish it out now?

I guess I’ll have to go back to using the sticky ones. I just wish I could find some which were better for the environment

My plumber said the same thing, despite us not having any actual leaks. So I don't know. Toilet in question has been in frequent daily use for nearly 10 years and has not yet developed a leak. We took the cistern block out while he was here doing some work but then put it back.

The cage things bother me because of all the plastic.

Mmm I didn't know that about the cistern blocks. I never used the ones in a plastic cage because my neighbour had to have half their driveway dug up when one of them blocked a pipe🤔
