Mouldy shower mats

They are made of white knitted plastic and the underside is black with mould.

I put them through a one hour, 60 degree wash with baking soda, white vinegar, bleach, Elbow Grease, lemon juice and laundry detergent and they are still black. What next?

wtf

bin and buy new

hardly pricey and you’ll spend more on water and liquid cleaning then

these aren’t mouldy they are utterly gross to the extent that I can’t believe you’ve been standing on them!

It’s almost as if we needed a warning before seeing that photo…

Sorry, op.

Bin

try soaking them in Milton

user2848502016 · 12/07/2025 19:23

You could try the dettol mould spray and if that
doesn’t do it nothing will.

Also did you use all those things together in the same wash?! Because that’s a really bad idea - vinegar and bleach create toxic vapours for one thing and vinegar and bicarbonate of soda react to produce water so they cancel eachother out.

The best thing for mould is prevention so I would take them out of the shower and dry them properly once a week and give them a spray of mould remover

If they are the sucker ones, hang them to dry after every use. We had a bath mat and found it uncomfortable so we use stickers that make round rough patches to stop slipping for the kids. So much better. They have been down well over six months and look good still

why have you asked for advice and now getting defensive? These are rank, get rid and stop doing this!

Wow you are really spoiling for a fight, aren't you?

I just wanted tips on how to clean something. It's that simple.

Get to B and M and buy a new one?! That mat should seriously have a health warning on it! Absolutely gross, especially when they aren't that expensive to replace! We've had some that have lasted a couple of years and still looked new! Regular washing would be a start, ours go in with the towels. There is absolutely no need for it to get to that stage!

The mats are 3 months old.

We don't have a B and M in my town.

You should have inserted a trigger warning in your thread title

um

wtf

Hg mould cleaner. If that doesn’t work then buy new ones and hang them up to dry after every single use without fail

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 13/07/2025 09:07

They are very cheap to replace. I'm not exactly flash with cash but I have two spare mats, so I can put one down when one is in the wash, which I do when I wash the towel once a week (I live alone, so it's only me and my solitary bath towel before anyone is incensed by my sluttish ways with towelage).

You need to hang them up after the morning showers and evening showers or it will keep happening. We have a bath one from Ikea that has a hole to hang up from and it’s not get any mould on and we’ve been using it for about 9 months I think. I bought a suction cup hook that attaches securely to the shower screen, so it’s easy to hang quickly.
