Packing/decluttering/hacks etc....i tried and looked but I couldn't see a recent thread. Is housekeeping the right topic?

If you can, pay for the movers who’ll pack for you.

@ShesTheAlbatrossi find even just the thought of that mortifying! They pack everything ?

The moment you get into your new house make the bed. That way, whatever else you do or don't do you will be able to fall into a clean bed at the end of the day. We didn't do this once and we had to make the bed at midnight when we were exhausted and pissed.

Yeah they pack everything. We had a big clear out in the weeks leading up to the move so they didn’t pack clutter. And they don’t go through all your underwear etc - they just carried the chests of drawers out whole. And we had a suitcase of stuff we needed asap that we just took in the car with us. They had the whole house packed up in a just a few hours, whereas it would have taken us ages and been a nightmare with our young DC.

Agree with @ShesTheAlbatross pay the movers to pack everything. They will have it all done in a matter of hours.
My only “tip” would be to put essentials in one clearly labelled box (think kettle, tea bags/coffee, snacks, first aid kit, medicines etc, basically anything you’ll need straight away in your new place).

If you’re packing yourself, use those big square sided bag for lifes, rather than boxes for some things.

Have handles, easier to carry, easier to pack into vehicles. Lidl and Aldi ones are particularly good.

We did our big clearout as we were getting the house ready to go on the market. We then got packers in and it was worth every penny.

One tip I got from here was to get those big blue Ikea bags and pack a set of bedding incl duvet and pillows for each bed per bag and label with the correct room. Then really easy to find to make up the beds so everyone has somewhere comfortable to sleep for the first night, even if you don't get much more done.

@ShesTheAlbatrossthat would have been so much easier! After being in a chain we finally got the keys for new house on the 14th March, I was 9 months pregnant, had a c section on the 18th March and had to be out of our rental by 16th April. It was hands down the worst month of our life!! A toddler, newborn, major surgery, packing, moving and decorating 😅 I don't recommend it haha. Next time I'll definitely get the packers in!
