Ok, my dad has been working in my house for about a month now, first he built a wall between living and dinning room so lots of mess, then he was sanding the walls in the hall , loads of mess, and this past week he has been tiling my downstairs loo, so again, quite messy generally.

The problem is, that even though I have cleared up each time he has left, my laminate flooring in the hall and living room, and my leather sofas now seem to be permanently dull. I have cleaned and cleaned them but after drying they look crap again.

What can I do to get them looking nice again ??

you can get proper leather cleaner from a place that sells stuff for horses, but be warned it will strip the leather completely and then you will need to put on the proper deep nourishing stuff - can also buy it from a saddlery type place.

Hmm, not sure I can be doing with that cargirl. There must be an easier way.

that's me exactly, I've bought the stuff and never used it!!!! Lakeland leather cleaner seems quite good though.

ermm dont know if it will work but when we had building work last year my cream sofas got it so ended up getting neat flash and a scrubbing brush from a pan and then scrubbed and wiped with a clean cloth.

Poundland sell leather clean and feed. It is fantastic. We had a lot of decorating dust recently and it relly got the sofas nice and clean. I would never buy anything else now.

CrackerOfNuts · 24/05/2008 20:40

Hmm not sure about that Nemo, they aren't dirty as such, just dull. Mind you it probably is dirt isn't it .

I'll try the stuff from Poundland first then, gotta be worth a try for £1.

I had a similar problem, FIL doing lots of work in the house and the brick/plaster dust was just horrendous.

Only thing that got the dark leather sofas clean was washing them- and I mean proper washing with a big bowl of hot soapy water and repeated wash/rinse/wash again ad infinitum, not just a good wipe with a damp cloth. Took ages!

Also we've always found that our other cream leather sofas when properly cleaned look more matte than when they need cleaning. For some reason they look a bit shiny when "dirty" (I don't mean dusty but just not wiped for a while), what colour are yours?

Hello - same problem here!

Did you find a resolution to the plaster dust on the laminate floors???

I have been cleaning and cleaning (and cleaning) and my laminate floors still looks dusty!

Any ideas?
