I tidy, turn around and it is messy.

Well ok ok, I probably don't tidy enough, but jesus christ where the hell does it all come from.

I had a skip only 2 weeks ago, and cleared a load of junk out, so I know it isn't stuff that isn't needed, but arghhhhhhhhhh it is driving me potty.

Yep, know the feeling. Sometimes it feels like the house is built on top of a landfill and it is seeping up through the floorboards...

micci25 · 24/05/2008 23:05

probably coz you have kids? know the feeling i was sorting the toys today and i swear i had to keep putting the same ones back again and again and again! and tommorrow while i am washing up or doing upstiars i am failrly dd1 wil be unorganising my neatly piled toys!

charliecat · 24/05/2008 23:06

Yep, daily i have this issue. I KNOW its because we dont have that gene that makes us put stuff back when we are done with it...but still.
Amazes me how it stays messy for a long time, but tidy for seconds

CrackerOfNuts · 24/05/2008 23:07

Well thank god I am not the only one anyway.

We seem to have shoes bloody everywhere.

I am giving the kids a pound on sunday for non littering. A penny removed for each bit of rubbish that SHOULD be in the bin. Is working well.

Shitemum · 24/05/2008 23:09

Don't tidy up till the end of the day or you will find yourself doing it over and over again.
I go crazy when DP goes into the kitchen and leaves crumbs all over MY freshly wiped table. AAArrgghhh!!!!

Shitemum · 24/05/2008 23:09

...and give your kids a pep talk - they're old enough to tidy up after themselves!

CrackerOfNuts · 24/05/2008 23:09

Hmm i'd rather pay myself to do it CC LOL.

Shitemum · 24/05/2008 23:10

oh god, shoes everywhere, dont talk to me about shoes...

Shitemum · 24/05/2008 23:11

Maybe your kids could pay you?!

Clary · 24/05/2008 23:12

lol at shoes everywhere.

I think the thing to do is to deal with it at once.

Get out the jam for toast - put it away when finished with.

Fold up washing - put it in a drawer.

Finish your game - put the bits back in the box.

Come in - hang up coat, shoes on rack, sort out book bag and put away.

I know it sounds a pain but I promise you it works.

Mind you there are still unexplained piles of random clutter all over th ehouse - but it's part of DH's masterplan so I try not to interfere

micci25 · 24/05/2008 23:13

my dd only ever seems to have one full pair of shoes and lots of odd ones coz for some unknown reason she seems to take off a different shoe different rooms! takes me ages to find them all again! altough i did find quite a few of them in her toy box today

CrackerOfNuts · 24/05/2008 23:15

Currently there is a pile of shoes in the shoe box, but then we have dd1's school shoes at the top of the stairs, ds's converse on the stairs, and 1 pink croc all alone in the garden.

I have to say I quite like it when DH takes DD away for a few days. I can then get the house tidy and it stays that way. Weird, huh?

jingleyjen · 24/05/2008 23:18

I just do things bit by bit,
flylady really helped me get into the habit and helped me shape Dh into a similar habit.

dizzydixies · 24/05/2008 23:19

cracker we had a skip 2 wks ago and filled it too

I've since put another two boot loads to the tip AND 4 bin bags to the charity shop

just keep going we'll soon both have nothing left in the house to cause a mess lol

I bought one of these and put it in the porch for their shoes and its working, well so far at least
