Sweat proof something for sofa

Passthejaffacakes · 28/06/2025 15:49

Now the kids have flown the nest we have bought a fabric sofa. The previous leather one had no issue with sweat but I'm wondering what to put on the sofa when he returns from a run, hot and sweaty.

DH loves running, a half marathon most weekends and he comes home and spends 20 minutes, sat down, checking his Strava etc while gently dripping.
Any suggestions on the best type of towel, terry, microfiber or something else to protect the sofa?

A waterproof picnic blanket?? He gets comfort and you get a clean dry sofa

A shower

He needs to either shower or sit in an alternative (not upholstered) chair.
He does not get to use your sofa as his personal sweat sponge.

OP it’s awful, after a week or so your expensive new sofa will smell like a locker room and if you looked at the padding under the upholstery it will have those gross yellow sweat stains on, honestly it’s ABSOUTLEY disgusting I think

He gently drips outside on a bench or deckchair. It's utterly disgusting that he drips all over your sofa and possibly carpet too 🤮

Think it could be a spoof as it’s so outlandish

Yes, this. Put a garden bench or chair outside the front door for him. DS is a runner and comes back looking like he's been under a garden hose he's so drippy. He stays in the garden, gently doing stretches until he's non-drippy enough to come in and jump straight into the shower. No sitting on any furniture on the way.

Yes it's disgusting and it's tempting to keep him in the garden and hose him off first with the garden hose.

I think the plastic backed picnic blanket is a good idea. Fortunately we have laminate flooring so there is no dripping on the carpet.

Why he can't just shower like a normal person. It's disgusting tbh.

For those saying just shower, he does, he just needs a few minutes to recover and cool down a bit before showering. He's in his 50's and it takes a little longer as we age.

He knows he can't drip over the sofa and I'm not going to make him sit outside.

He was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer and given a 25% survival rate two years ago. He's beaten it and running has been a big part of his recovery, he ran the London marathon in April.

Thank you for the suggestions
