Please help me with tips on decluttering children’s toys!
I have a 6.5 year old and a 4 year old and they have so many toys but I don’t know where to start with getting rid of things in case they suddenly want to play with them again. What do people do to keep on top of the amount of toys in the house please? 🙏🏼

Start with anything broken or missing parts

then put “like Toys” together and keep one (eg we had an encanto pairs game and a Toy Story one, kept one)

decide how much storage space you have and priorieze the toys they play with most, always come back to etc.

if unsure pop in a bag under the bed for a month or 2 to find out if they ask for it.

look into toy rotation (people love it- it’s too much work for me!)

pop some in bedrooms

Gather a selection of their favourite toys and put the rest in bags and put them away. (Loft, garage, shed, cupboard).

See if they ask for any of the missing toys.

Thank you both, these are really great tips to start 😃. I’ll let you know how I get on! 🤞🏼. I think I’m the biggest problem because I always worry they’ll want to play with it again and so don’t get rid of anything but that needs to change!

Can also give some to grandparents and they become novel as not always available to play with.

its hard, i hang on to things thinking ‘what if DC 3 likes dinosaurs like DC1! I should keep allllll the dinosaurs just incase!!’ But ultimately if dc 3 really liked something im sure we could pick up a lot second hand. I pass a lot to my childminder too, so in a pinch could ask for it back after a year or 2 if she still had it!

toys often is a less is more, they’ll play better when they are not overwhelmed with choice… so think of it as aiding their play! Xx
