Decluttering your clothes - different sizes - what to do?

I would really appreciate your advice please.

Children have left home.

I’m currently decluttering my house by category and I’m wading through my clothes of which I have far too many because, now I am far too fat, I have so many really lovely clothes in different sizes that I have grown out of; right through from size 10 to 18/20.

I really love clothes so this is quite a difficult challenge for me.

The other problem is that now I am no longer cooking family meals, I seriously intend to get slimmer. Yes, I know we all say that, but I am determined about this and need to do so anyway for health reasons.

Can anyone who has been in a similar situation please advise me?

How did you manage this situation?

I don’t want to have to re-buy all of my clothes as I go down the size scale as we need money for the new house we are down-sizing to, and some of them are really good quality; better quality than I can afford now actually!

Also, I dress in a very classic traditional style and so what suits me hasn’t changed much over the years.

Should I just keep one zipped clothes storage bag of say 10 items in each dress size?

What did you do?

Many thanks; all suggestions gratefully received!

If you are going to lose the weight then sell all of 18/20

then each size guy drop sell all the clothes

don’t keep once too big

or you end up gaining and going back into next size

I’ve got rid as I’ve gone along. Either on vinted or charity and kept nothing as I don’t ever intend to be that size again. Only my wedding dress and one dress dh loved me in has stayed but they are the size I am now anyway.
Styles change and vinted is great for buying and selling so I don’t feel bad getting rid of stuff that doesn’t fit me now

Don't ditch everything! I have gone from a size 20 down to a 14 in the last 10 months and being able to get back into some of the old things I love has been a great motivation tool. Especially quality stuff. I have some smaller things I am still hoping to get into too.

Ditch things as you slim out of them. Ditch anything damaged, worn out, discoloured or that you no longer like.

Lovely wool, silk, cashmere and linen is much more difficult to buy now so don't be too hasty.

What I did was I went on the weight loss injections - Mounjaro- And I've lost 4 1/2 stone. My cupboards were full of clothes that I had bought and couldn't wear because they hadn't fitted me. As I went down and size I was able to wear them and pretty soon sell them on Vinted. I now have very few of my old clothes and I love it because they were so associated with stress and dieting and self hatred. I only bought new clothes when I got down to a size 14 because I didn't have any in that size as I hadn't been that weight for decades. I'm now a size 12 and really love getting dressed every day, something I haven't done since I was in my 20s.

I have always kept one box of clothes that don’t fit me right now, but that I still love. Whether they are currently too big or too small, if I would still pick them up and rush to the till to buy them, I keep them. Every year, I flick through the box, put anything that fits back into use and remove anything that no longer fills me with joy to see again, and this keeps the box from getting too full.
I’ve gone up and down in sizes over the years, this has worked for me.
