Because I'm going to be ruthless today and get rid of some plastic crap.

DS's room is tiny. so ALL his toys are downstairs. it's a flipping nightmare.

CountessDracula · 22/05/2008 10:27

We have things like jigsaws, drawing thing, arty crafty things. All in a cupboard so it can be shut away

Plus a playhouse in the garden with dd's kitchen and a few bits in it

The rest stays upstairs

beansmum · 22/05/2008 10:29

I live in a flat, ds has all his toys in the living room. Train tracks and cars, a dolls house, art stuff, books, lego, playmobil. I need an extra room really.

lazarou · 22/05/2008 10:29

Nothing in their room, it's too small. Although most of the books are in there for bedtime.
We have a toybox in the front room. Every so often I get rid of a load of tat tehy don't play with.

Cappuccino · 22/05/2008 10:30

I have 2 dds 3 and 7

yes same as cd with jigsaws, drawing, craft stuff

also we have a lot of babies ; some instruments; lego duplo; big bricks; a Mrs Potato Head, some puppets that no-one ever plays with but are A Set so I can't get rid of them (keep convincing myself I will start up puppet shows so that my children can express themselves )

some board games that we are waiting for dd2 to be old enough to be able to play

we have a whole room tbh full of stuff stuffed in Ikea boxes

Oliveoil · 22/05/2008 10:30

we have a playroom/dining room which is quite big so the ELC kitchen and easel, drawing stuff etc is in there

bookshelf with books and jigsaws on it

in the main room we have one toy box for my sanity so that at night I can just shove evertyhing in and shut the lid

all other toys in their rooms but at weekends they all seem to migrate all over the house

personally I don't get rid of their toys behind their backs (so to speak) we have a joint clear out and give them away

unless it is BROKEN plastic tat and then I throw it away on the sly

BlueDragonfly · 22/05/2008 10:30

none

(i only have a kitchen downstairs )

Cappuccino · 22/05/2008 10:31

we have nothing in main living room

our house is open-plan; what would be 'the dining room' is the playroom because our kitchen has a table in it

SoupKitchen · 22/05/2008 10:31

Everything is downstairs, but hopefully after the next 5 weeks of chaos everthing will be upstairs in their rooms( Loft conversion starts after the BH)
They are 2 & 3 btw
Craft stuff will stay downstairs, but away in a cupboard

castille · 22/05/2008 10:32

My older 2 (10, 8) have all their stuff in their rooms.

22mo is too little to play on his own in his room so all his toys in the living room. It's a big room, they have their own corner. But all he actually plays with is selection of balls, jigsaws, lego, trike and wooden blocks.

In fact I think I'll join you in the plastic crap disposal

Mercy · 22/05/2008 10:32

Most of ds' toys (including train set, cars and garage), one box of general shared crap, jigsaws, board games, most of their books.

Ages 4 and 7 (ds' room is tiny)

Mercy · 22/05/2008 10:33

And tons of dd's art/craft stuff in the kitchen, plus toy kitchen, food, teaset etc etc

BlueDragonfly · 22/05/2008 10:33

but to answer sensibly...

In the front room is a train table and unde rthat are trains and track, a teletubby house, some mega blocks, a zoofari thing that they never play with but is new so can't give it away just yet! On top of the train table is their playmobil which really need a home before ds3 starts to move

next to that is a basket with cars in

ermmmmm

i also have a toy box but its got baby toys in that ds3 will use (its not been sorted )and we use it for a table

OverMyDeadBody · 22/05/2008 10:36

DS is 5.

I have one toybox in the sitting room downstairs, plus art and craft things and drawing/colouring stuff.

Everythin else is stored in his room, if he wants to play with something downstairs he brings it down, then it goes back upstasirs when he's finished with it or it's the end of the day.

Hmmmm, interesting stuff

Currently we have a box full of cars of different shapes and sizes.
DD (4) and DS1 (21 months) play with them alot and I stand on them alot

Then we have a plastic round tub full of bigger plastic toys, a little wicker thing which has small toys in, mainly baby toys, then in the family room we've got a chest with big plastic toys in and its not even opened.

I can never decide what toys to leave downstairs that they will play with and what to hide away upstairs.
Whatever gets put away never gets played with.
Dh will be putting away a huge Thomas train track set and a wooden train track tonight and I cant help but think that this should eb a toy they can have out.
But it makes so much mess!

Once upon a time I used to be a Manager and make important decisions.
Now I worry about what toys are accessable to my kids.

Gobbledigook · 22/05/2008 12:13

All our toys are downstairs in teh playroom. There are no toys in the boys' bedrooms.

We need to do a clear out as there as so much in there that they just don't play with.

Beauregard · 22/05/2008 12:15

All toys except books and cuddlies are downstairs in our lounge, so the area that should be for dining is full of ruddy toys

SmugColditz · 22/05/2008 12:16

ALL the toys are downstairs. Hotwheels, car garage, train set, huge bag of megablocks, a tub of unspeakably cluttered grubby plastic shite things, at least half my tiny downstairs is taken up with coloured plastic.

VictorianSqualor · 22/05/2008 12:21

Nothing. There are no toys anywhere in my house except their bedrooms.
The DC's are 7&3.
We have scrabble and Trivial Pursuit under the sofa, but they aren't really toys IMO.

Anna8888 · 22/05/2008 12:28

No upstairs/downstairs in our flat but there are some toys in the dining/playroom. Only beautiful ones allowed on a permanent basis though - a wooden doll's house with gorgeous wooden furniture and dolls, a wooden farm with Schleich animals...

littlerach · 22/05/2008 13:40

Toybox
Kitchen and accessories
Box of dolls and clothes

All in living room.
Plus 2 shelves of a book case.

in dining room - Box of Polly pocket stuff, with some peppa Pig stuff
Art stuff
Lego box.

Everyhting else in rooms.

dds are 7 and 3, when dd2 starts school in September I have pans for a toy free downstairs.

Nbg · 22/05/2008 15:02

Oh and I have done bugger all about it today.

I will have to read all replies very carefully and plan what I'm going to do, obviously.

We have a bookcase in the lounge and a large cupboard in the dining room full of toys. Also I've recently cleared out the understairs cupboard, and that now houses 'tidy' toys - sets that are stored in boxes. I have made a big effort lately to get rid of things that don't fall into a category that I can put in a box! So they have duplo, trainset, sticklebricks, TV/film character toys, balls, cars, dressing up, pirate ship set..... We have a couple of boxes of odd bits, but I get stressed if it expands beyond this. The DS's have loads more toys in their room, and a whole garden full of lovely plastic crap toys!

Nemoandthefishes · 24/05/2008 08:21

eek nbg
although Ioften have big clear out..took binbag and half to a friends the other day..lol
dc are 4,2 and 1 and we currently have downstairs a wooden noahs ark, 2 dolls prams[only little ones] a wicker chest that stores a ton of toys and on top of that are 4 medium sized plastic boxes with different toys in so all fifi stuff is in one boax, all peppea in another etc.To be fair to ds it is mostly the DDs stuff as they are too small to carry it up and down the stairs otherwise the boxes would be in their bedrooms. I recently chucked some stuff into the playhouse aswell and then do charity/friends bag.
