How to clean yellow stuff around tap

Hi,

What’s the easiest and most effective way to clean around my tap and the shower hose? I think it’s limescale, not sure. Pics attached. I tried white vinegar but it’s still there.

Thanks

I do it with a cotton bud and tiny bit shower gel then rinse it.

How long did you let the vinegar sit? You can take some kitchen roll, 'soak' it in vinegar and wrap it around the tap. Then wait a bit longer...

I don't know about your shower though.

Barkeepers Friend or Domestic Limescale remover bleach and a very hard toothbrush and scrub well.

Maneattraction · 01/06/2025 08:45

Viakal will sort that out

For the tool I’d use an old toothbrush but I’d put strong cleaner round the tap leave it for a bit then scrub off. Might need wire wool. For the silver disc on the overflow it just slips off get your nail behind it and you can then clean the hole properly and replace that easily if the chrome effect has flaked off.
ditto shower hose, if beyond repair, buy a new one they just unscrew.

I let the vinegar sit for about 3 hours. I think it got drained away though, so I’ll try soaking a cloth this time.

I’ll also buy viakal.

Didn’t occur to me to replace shower hose. I’ll definitely do that rather than clean it

I can’t unscrew the hose from the bit where it connects to the taps at the bottom. I tried gripping with a cloth for more friction but it won’t budge

Definately limescale remove. Viakal will deal with that.

MarxistMags · 01/06/2025 13:12

Have you tried oil ? Even cooking oil might work .

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/06/2025 13:13

Viakal or the HG limescale spray

sanityisamyth · 01/06/2025 13:47

Vinegar and bicarb. Put an old head on an electric toothbrush and use it to scrub it.

Kitchen roll soaked in vinegar overnight around the base
Citric acid powder sprinkled on damp kitchen roll
scrub around with a toothbrush in the morning
i live in an extremely hard water area and the trick is to do it before it builds up
same for my toilet

FancyMauveDreamer · 08/06/2025 10:54

Thanks for the suggestions all. Paper towels soaked in vinegar has done the job nicely 😊
And I’ve got viakal as a regular thing to prevent build up and keep taps shiny.
