Would you swap your condensor dryer for a heat pump one?

I've got a beko condensor dryer which is great but shrinks trousers etc and greys tops a bit.

Would it be worth getting a heat pump one? Can I put my more delicate clothes e.g cotton stretch tops in?

Annoyingly my dryer is only a few years old, and great for towels etc but I still air dry a lot of my clothes.

Thanks!

I’ve just got a heat pump one and I’m unimpressed it takes sooo much longer to dry stuff!

Heat pump works well, very controllable. Cheap to run Expensive to buy and very slow.

My thoughts was to keep the old one (im using an integrated garage atm but hoping to move soon so can keep the consendor one somewhere warm) and do towels in the old one and clothes in the new one. It's a bit extravagant but I've shrank so many nice t shirts of DH'S!

I’ve not had a condenser dryer to compare but I went from a washer/ dryer combo to a heat pump dryer and it’s amazing. It is more efficient than what I had before and much gentler. I’ve put a couple of delicate things in and held my breath and they’ve been fine!

We had one, it was slow and incredibly noisy.

After years of using a heat pump one, Ive bought a condenser one. I prefer the condenser one myself. I dry clothes for about 20 mins and then put them on the airer

LimeQuoter · 30/05/2025 22:23

Ya, that's a good idea. You could keep the old one and use both to compare. Because let's face it these things usually break down at some stage anyway. Could be handy to have a spare!

I went from condenser to heat pump and the difference between the two is incredible - the heat pump one is terrible! Nothing comes out dry - I still have to hang everything up to finish drying. I’ve given up putting towels in there as even one towel takes 4-5 hours to still not be dry enough. I’m quite tempted to buy a new condenser one even though this one is only a couple of years old.

I've got a new Bosch heat pump condenser dryer and I think it's fantastic. No condensation like the old one. It has a sensor so I just set it to go on the mixed fabrics programme and it beeps when everything is dry. With my old dryer I had to try to gauge how long it would take and set a timer.

I agree with all the replies about heat pump dryer, never again! So slow and expensive. Everything takes twice as long and I am not able to put clothes from the line on for 15 minutes to "iron" it anymore. I wish I never bought it!

StMarie4me · 30/05/2025 22:42

I love my hot point condenser. Never ruined anything. So everything on low heat. Costs about 30p to dry a load. Dressing having to ever replace it!

ExtensiveDebating · 30/05/2025 22:46

We went from vented to heat pump and are really pleased with it, it is slow but we generally only do one load a day so it just goes on for the evening. It has lots of settings and hasn't shrunk anything. It also works fine at low temperatures although not as economical.

I also have a Bosch heat pump dryer and I love it, takes between 1hr 40 - 2hours to dry a load. Also I don’t have clothes shrinking anymore, no condensation in the kitchen and I don’t find it loud at all.
