Looking for vacuum cleaner recommendations please to replace Miele C3. We don't have pets atm though. Prefer to go for an upright, is cordless better? Som brands I've looked at are Bosch, Miele, Shark and Dyson. Thanks

I do have pets and tried all(Miele was the best of the ones you mentioned shark was a disaster ) but best ever is my Henry/hetty and it’s a fraction of the price. I know it’s not cordless though.

I love my Sebo Felix. Cordless is more convenient, but not necessarily better; much less oomph than a corded machine.

I've got the Dyson v11 cordless and really recommend it. Would never buy corded again

I've researched forever but it's just about impossible to compare cordless as they all measure power differently or not at all.

Basically the Dyson feels flimsy and is expensive but sucks everything up, no question.

The Miele tri cordless seems less flimsy but not as powerful.

If you've got carpets, I think the pet version is always better anyway because of the spinning brush.

In my experience, cordless has never been better, never quite enough power like a corded

AliasGraced · 24/05/2025 16:18

Sebo, they are the best.

I love my upright shark. Not cordless so packs the punch of a proper hoover.

If you have carpets, I wouldn’t be relying on just a cordless machine, pets or no pets. I have a new, mid-range Dyson cordless. Although it’s great for a quick whizz around, it just doesn’t have the power of a corded machine.

I could use the Dyson on our bedroom carpets, immediately go back with my older corded Shark and it would pick up plenty of dust from the carpet pile that the Dyson had skimmed over. I’ll always keep the Shark for this reason.

Maybe the higher end cordless machines would perform better, but I just couldn’t pay £600-800 on a vacuum with a limited battery life.

Cordless just don’t have the power imv - Henry all the way

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 24/05/2025 16:46

Tried them all, Henry beat them all.

cheeseontoasteez · 24/05/2025 16:58

Thanks everyone I will have a look at these. Definitely don't want to lose out on power for the sake of it being cordless.

I've had a Dyson ball, a Miele cat and dog, a Sebo, and currently have a Henry and a Shark upright. A Henry is bombproof, simple to use. But they are bloody heavy. I only use it for cleaning out the hearth. Dh is a builder and uses one for heavy duty cleaning. I wouldn't have just a Henry due to the weight and fact that it's hard work. Dyson ball was really nice to use but not hardy enough for my household - the motors went on both. Sebo was utterly shit. I must have had a dud as everyone else likes them. The best all rounder so far for me has been the Shark upright. I love mine.

TheGrimSmile · 24/05/2025 17:08

Oh and the Miele cat and dog cylinder was also good but I prefer an upright

cheeseontoasteez · 25/05/2025 11:39

Thanks @TheGrimSmileth Miele cat and dog has lasted years but I also prefer an upright. I will have a look at the shark upright.
