Anyone else want a cheer for the small wins?

I don’t know if this is just me being a bit daft, but I’ve been feeling like I want a thread where we can cheer each other on for the stuff that no one really sees.
Not the big milestone things - just the day-to-day bits that don’t come with applause.

We’re in the middle of launching a business, and my husband’s working full time and doing long hours on that. So even though I’m working on the business too, I do have more time at home — which means most of the housework has defaulted to me. And while I don’t expect a round of applause, part of me would love a little “well done” now and again.

So can this be a thread for that? The invisible wins. The boring-but-important. The things you did this week that kept things going — even if no one noticed.

Here are mine:
– Decluttered the kitchen cupboards
– Got to the bottom of the laundry pile
– Changed all the beds
– Built a new veggie bed in the garden

I’d love to hear yours — and I will 100% be cheering you on.

I'm out.

Yours aren't small things. They might have been until the veggie patch.

dontcomeatme · 23/05/2025 03:16

I love this thread idea.
I organised the babys clothes that no longer fit him into boxes for the loft.
I deep cleaned the kitchen.
Made a start on the backlog of washing from when we were all poorly.
Set the new TV up.

Well done OP 👏, we can't wait to build our new veggie patch too! What veg are you hoping to grow this year ? We had our own turnips and brussels on our christmas dinner last year 🥰

hahaha - veggie spot might have been closer to the truth! One cucumber, cougette, squash and pumpkin plant, with a makeshift frame to climb up!

Organising old kids clothes is an amazing task to get done, creating space and making them organised for the future - gold star! xx

Cleaned the recycling bins.
Took some really awkward padding out of a bra
Sewed a button back on a coat
Recycled batteries

No biggies but the bra was tricky

inkieink · 23/05/2025 23:10

Thats so cool, I'd be impressed if I managed one workout a week, inspired to try and prioritise this though. x

I’m 2 weeks post c section and now have 3 dc!

today was the first day I did a bit more house stuff

my list:
i hoovered upstairs

loaded the dishwasher and put it on

put 2 lots of clean laundry back in everyone’s drawers

spot wiped all the stick bits off the floor in open plan kitchen living room

put lots of toys back in their proper play eg duplo with the duplo, cars all in one box

got husband to take off sofa cushions covered in blueberries, wash, dry outside and put back on sofa

Whatarethese1 · 23/05/2025 23:12

Great thread. Too tired to post much after some building damage today.

Small wins include getting a load of cheap laundry baskets (recycled plastic ones) and really sorting winter clothes before bagging them up for storage.

That is such a good job to get done - our recycling bins are gross. I'm impressed with your dedication to mend! I think thats an impressive list. xx

That is deserving of a "well done", I'll even raise you and the others a high five!

I've managed to claw back my weekly cleaning routine that I lost during the pandemic when it became quite random.

Today was also day 1 of a 30 health kick. It's been a little bit of a tough year and I've been eating and drinking too much. I've gained weight so now all my lovely clothes are getting tight. Woke up this morning and suddenly I'm doing my own quiet little unannounced 30 day challenge.

Crucible · 23/05/2025 23:14

I have ironed consistently for weeks.
Started on the spare room (little and often).
Arranged a furniture pick up at my Dad's.
I've stopped letting receipts pile up (that was lent, I started a new habit and have kept it up).
Found new kind of dishwasher powder and will be trying a gel.

Crucible · 23/05/2025 23:15

Everyone on this thread is doing really well, it's the little things.

Medee · 23/05/2025 23:15

Yesterday, patched the peg bag, been on my to-do list for months, and was looking more and more precarious until I sewed a couple of squares of denim into it.

Smallwinscount · 23/05/2025 23:17

Honestly honestly I changed my user name to this about 3 days ago. They do!

Threads like this make me want to weep. Were several decades of feminism a complete waste of time?

Sounds great that you have found a routine and challenge again. I struggle with needing plans and fighting structure so you have my admiration for finding something that works!

Since when did feminism mean we can’t support each other?

I’m a founder, a CEO, and I’ve raised four independent, strong-willed kids. I’ve fought hard for choice, freedom, and a life that reflects my values. That doesn’t mean I don’t want a bit of encouragement when I’m elbow-deep in mundane jobs I didn’t exactly dream of doing. That isn’t weakness - that’s real life.
You don’t have to be part of this thread - but please don’t suggest that asking for mutual support somehow undoes decades of progress.

You don't get how much my space, my home, really brings me peace. I live a quiet little life, in a home that I've decorated to make it just to my taste. When it's nice, it brings me a little joy and I feel more grounded.

Love this! Especially the blueberry bit and sorting toys! These are small things we women do automatically but so hard for OH! It’s like we are automated to do them but men are not 😂

@inkieink thank you, these are all things that are bloody difficult to do amongst everything else on my list. I really appreciate the rally!
