Very light scented fabric conditioner

I currently use Ecover unscented fabric conditioner but it's very expensive. My sister uses Ecover scented and says the smell is not overpowering.

I can't deal with strong artificial scents. Is Ecover scented subtle? Any others?

Yes it is. When I saw the title, this was the brand I was going to say to you.

LadyDanburysHat · 19/05/2025 15:11

I would buy supermarket own brand as they smell less anyway. Often the white coloured ones seem to smell less too. Also use a lot less than they tell you on the bottle.

Just don’t use fabric conditioner

SheherazadesSpringNonsense · 19/05/2025 15:20

I use Method because I don’t like strong smells

Fairy, but a very small amount.

Don’t use it, you’re literally being charged money to add totally unnecessary substances to your clothing. Plus the waste of plastic. It’s practically a con trick.

That would save cash. Due to a chronic illness I have very thin and sensitive skin. Can you suggest a decent alternative to keep my clothes soft?

I already use soda crystals to soften the water and white vinegar doesn't work. You'll save me a fortune.

You could use those dryer balls? A woman on our local market makes them (out of felted wool I think?) and you can add a drop or two of essential oil if you want a bit of a smell, it they are designed to use instead of fabric softener.

Thanks but I don't have a dryer. I'll keep looking.

Don’t use it and add a touch of white vinegar in the wash instead. You can get it from Amazon for about £6 for 5 litres
your clothes won’t smell vinegary. It softens clothes and can brighten up whites.

Jackrussellsaremad · 19/05/2025 17:34

I don't use fabric conditioner and only a small amount of washing liquid. The clothes are no different from if I use lots of either product other than they don't smell strongly of chemicals.

That's good to hear. I live in a very hard water area and without conditioner my clothes are unbearable.

You don't have to justify yourself at all.
I already mentioned Fairy but both Comfort Pure and the Lidl version of it (called Dousy or something like that) also have quite a light scent but do make the clothes much softer.

I know what you mean but try a few different cycles and see if it helps.

Thanks. I've wondered about Comfort Pure, as it's marketed for children I think so the scent can't be too strong.

Yes, I like the softer scents and they're generally the ones designed for babies/children. Good luck.
