Dd has a white pair of jeans she’s managed to get ink over.. tried everything. What’s the best white dye?

There’s no white dye. You could try bleach.

Lovelysummerdays · 17/05/2025 08:17

I think you’ll struggle, if the fits good consider dying them the colour of the ink.

Moveoverdarlin · 17/05/2025 08:19

I thought you meant dying them a darker colour. In which case that would work well. You can’t dye them white.

olympicsrock · 17/05/2025 08:19

nope!
she needs to choose a dark colour dye instead

Doggymummar · 17/05/2025 08:19

I died some navy last week that I got bleach on, I don't think it works the other way around. You could stain treat then hang on the line. I used tide pens yesterday and left a white dress on the line to sun bleach and the chocolate stain has gone

ThePoshUns · 17/05/2025 08:23

You won’t be able to. You could try soaking them in bleach/ water solution. Or dye them a dark colour.

WayneEyre · 17/05/2025 08:23

There isn't white dye. If bleach doesn't work (it probably won't perfectly), you could dye dark but if it's synthetic thread, the white stitching may show up. Patch or rip?

SnakesAndArrows · 17/05/2025 08:23

What have you tried, and has it taken any of the colour out? You’ve essentially dyed white jeans blue or black, so nothing is likely to be completely successful.

As a pp says, you might be able to dye a darker colour than the remaining stain, but it’s possible the stitching will be synthetic thread and won’t take.

Snap!

Tye dying might be an option. I have no idea whether that’s cool or hideously uncool though.

Theres a lady on Instagram that gets stains out of all sorts of clothing and shoes. Hongjiecleaning is her username and she has a video removing an inkstain from jeans.

Love this!! My mum made me some like this when I spilt paint on myself as a kid!

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 17/05/2025 09:09

If you do end up dyeing the jeans, try a sharpie over the thread.

Rocknrollstar · 17/05/2025 09:56

Have you tried Methylated Spirits? I seem to remember that worked on DSs cricket whites. You can’t dye anything white - how extensive is the ink? Could you cover the marks with a couple of sew on badges Or with some patchwork squares to give a hippy look? Maybe embroider over the marks?

whatrthechances · 17/05/2025 10:06

I had this issue recently with printer ink on white jeans, tried everything like white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda. fabric stain removers. in the end I sprayed on flash bleach spray and left to soak. I then rewashed and the stain was gone. try that op.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 17/05/2025 10:15

Are the jeans 100% cotton, as a slight mix fabric will also affect the dye (and how the stain holds), as well as not liking polyester thread. Worth giving them a try, and I had a cream crochet dress with a polyester lining I'd never worn and dyed it navy blue. Crochet is a lovely dark blue and the underslip an interesting shade of lilac grey, so now I wear it. Worth a try.

Thank you so much.. I will try this.
thanks all for your advice. She wanted white jeans so can’t dye them darker! Will let you know if the above works.

Beware that bleach (not laundry bleach) especially at a high solution can damage fabric very easily. I used to love distressed clothes when I was a teen and quickly found out that bleach can actually burn through some fabric and cause even very thick, durable fabric such as denim to become very weak. Also make sure you wash them a few times after before wearing because bleach residue can be difficult to remove and very irritating to the skin (also found this out the hard way.
Also, depending on the fabric, bleach doesn’t always leave a white mark. Sometimes it is yellowish/ pink/ cream coloured on white fabric.

KnickerFolder · 17/05/2025 12:03

What kind of ink is it?

Have you tried soaking in milk? The enzymes break down the ink.

You can't dye over bleach.

Bleaching changes the structure of the fabric.

I have learnt this a very hard and expensive way.

Thank you.. I’ll try diluting the bleach.

I once dyed blue jeans a mustard yellow after an accident at school with yellow sharpies.
the result was very cool.

Splain · 17/05/2025 13:25

stain devil for ink is your best bet. Anecdotally I have had some amazing results with hand sanitiser too.

whatrthechances · 19/05/2025 11:22

@ParsnipPuree did the flash bleach spray work op?
