Dishwasher- Best eco rinse aid for drying?

Mandoidi · 11/05/2025 10:50

I've noticed at some point my dishwasher just stopped being as good at drying and I've since learned that rinse aid helps with the drying process and eco brands might not be as effective.

Does anyone use an eco brand and doesn't have issues with drying? What would you recommend?

For info, I have a bosch dishwasher.i switched to miniml rinse aid a while back and I think it could be the cause.
Pic below is of the 'condensation' effect that has started to happen.
Thanks in advance!

Dishwasher- Best eco rinse aid for drying?

If your stuff comes out clean and dry I would be happy. Check that the drain and filter in the base is clear and draining. Drying spots on glass indicates more rinse aid is needed. Everything wet I think suggests that the drying step isn't working as it should. Can you hear the fans blowing at the end of the cycle?. Some of the water in your photo looks like condensation which won't be helped by rinse aid. My machine often has a little condensation on the door. It doesn't bother me.

I feel rinse aid is a simple product and I just get the Sainsbury's own brand stuff. You could get the finish stuff and see if things improve - it's all quite cheap.

White vinegar is the best and cheapest rinse aid.

We use white vinegar. 40p a bottle and lasts ages.

Now I've looked more, not all dishwashers dry with fans, but have different approaches. Rinse aid certainly helps water run off things (which vinegar doesn't). Try turning it up again to factory setting.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. I will try white vinegar but I'm not sure it will resolve the thing I'm trying to fix.

I'm really looking to see if anyone uses a purpose-made eco rinse aid product that dries as effectively as a non-eco version.

I'd prefer not to give up on using an eco product for this if I can help it.

And above all I'm just interested; as of yesterday I had no idea that rinse aid even did that job!

I think you've completely missed the point of my post. On many levels.

Oh, I see, sorry. I am aware of the miniml brand but read it as minimal.

Obviously the Finish suggestion looks ridiculous, but I don't think my post is unhelpful. And using a standard brand would let you know if it was your choice of rinse aid or a machine issue. You might have to wait until your current reservoir is empty though before switching.

Bosch don't really claim that the inside of the machine will be completely dry after a cycle https://www.bosch-home.co.uk/customer-service/get-support/dishwashers/water-in-tub I guess it's the dishes that count, not the machine.

Should there be water at the bottom of my dishwasher? | Bosch UK

Here's what to do if you find that your appliance hasn't fully drained the water from the tub.

I am sorry if I come across as an arse here and I really do appreciate your two comments where you add further info clarifying that a) you do understand that rinse aid can help with drying; and b) your re-read of miniml.

But-

  1. You told me how you would feel about something, and that it would not bother you; I wasnt asking for opinions on how people feel about it.
  2. I did not ask for general troubleshooting tips, but that is what you gave me.
  3. I asked for info on eco products and you recommended two non-eco products.
  4. You missed the point that I made in my first sentence, that my dishwasher used to dry much better. For some reason you have decided that I'm being unreasonable in my expectations.
  5. You proceed to tell me that I should try a standard brand to rule out the problem. How do you know I haven't already thought of this (including the part where I need to wait for the old rinse aid to be used up first? (Which is why I haven't done it yet).
  6. You initially told me that rinse aid was a simple product despite my post explaing the drying properties. You also told me it was cheap- absolutely not a concern, so not sure why you brought that up.

None of the above is what I asked for. Literally nothing. But you still tell me that you think your posts were helpful.

Sorry again for my response. I just really don't like it when people don't read posts properly.

Well, you sound scary, op, but I am brave 😂.

What type of dishwasher tablets are you using? As in, are they the type that includes rinse aid?
I found if I add additional rinse aid, it has an inverse effect.

Hmm interesting...

But no, I don't think so.
Eco tablets as well (which I know could also be the problem as I switched to those at a similar time but I have gone back to finish quantum as a test and still not dry)
