Grease stain on a new hoodie. Treated with stain stuff and washed twice. Lost cause?

Dark brown hoodie (new - a birthday present).
He got some sort of meat grease splodged down the front of it.
I rubbed in grease remover and washed it. Didn't shift.
I rubbed in much more grease remover and left it for ages and scrubbed it with very hot water. Then sent it through the wash. Still there.

Any ideas?

The washing up liquid neat should work 🤞

Neat washing up liquid definitely made it better, but it's not completely gone. Possibly because I have mild eco safe washing up- liquid? I've been out and bought some proper job washing up liquid, and a bar of elbow grease soap. Fingers crossed.

Another vote for elbow grease spray!

Omg I've done this so many times.
JANIE STICK!!!
It looks like a chalk for a pool cue. One end has a brush, the other a thick block of special chalk that soaks up the oil stain.
its a miracle product.
I've bought many over the years to save an olive oil / pasta disaster - and yes on a hoodie too. They used to sell it at johnlewis. You can buy them on ebay now.

Have you tried the Dr Beckmann grease/oil stain remover. Definitely worth a try and around £5 on Amazon

Pingyourpong · 11/05/2025 08:13

I came on to say Swarfega , it will even get car grease/ oil out of clothes.

So glad to see washing up liquid mentioned by a few posters. It’s my go to for 95% of stains. Even my DC learnt young to apply Fairy as soon as they could to any stain before putting it in the wash.

Another vote for Elbow grease

I’m in the US and use Dawn dishwashing soap for grease stains.
If you wash - and dry - a garment you’ll set the stain.
I’m thinking you can probably get Dawn on Amazon - it works miracles.
