Cleaner - how long?

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 06/05/2025 21:24

I’ve never had a cleaner before so no idea what I could expect them to reasonably get through and in what time frame.

We have a 5 bed house, 1 study, bathroom, downstairs loo, ensuite, kitchen, lounge and dining room. All would be very tidy so nothing to move out of the way etc. But it’s a very lived in house with kids and pets, so there will be soap marks, crumbs etc.

Kitchen and bathrooms are the priority, the other rooms would just be a vacuum, maybe a wipe over in the lounge for dust (not many ornaments so easy enough).

South East…what’s a fair amount of time likely needed? How much does your cleaner get through and time? Thanks

Four hours.

3 maybe 3.5hrs

Don't you know how long it takes you?

Cleaners should be getting through it quicker really, as they are the professionals. I know mine certainly do. It takes me about three hours to do what takes them two (well… one hour, but 2x cleaning staff.)

Wow to the answers here. Mine does 3 hours but only does my child’s bedroom not mine! We have a lot of stuff to tidy though…

It’s not the same at all. I never outright tidy then clean, it’s always a combination of the two. I also rarely have a solid 3 or so hours to just clean, uninterrupted. Hence paying for a cleaner.

depends how big rooms are but I would estimate:
One bathroom - 20 - 30 mins
Ensuite and downstairs loo - 30 mins
Kitchen - depending on size - 45 mins to one hour (mine takes an hour to deep clean)
Lounge - wipe down and Hoover - 30 mins
Hoover throughout - 40 mins

So approx 3 hours if they are efficient. Maybe add another 30 minutes for contingencies and any other little extra jobs so 3 hr 30??

Four hours.

Agreed but with possibly slightly longer the first couple of sessions.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 11/05/2025 08:56

Mine spends 3hrs in a 4 bed and could def spend longer

Hocuspocus99 · 11/05/2025 09:19

I would say initially 4 hours .
This all depends on the size of the kitchen and the bathrooms.
The initial fist clean will give a good idea of how long things are going to take.

DefinitelyMaybe92 · 11/05/2025 09:25

How frequently will you be having them in, OP? This also makes a difference if you’re only having weekly, or even fortnightly, cleans?

southchinasea · 11/05/2025 09:34

Our house is a similar size, we have pets and the kids are at Uni in termtime, and our cleaner does 3 hours a week. She does the kitchen, bathrooms, family room, hoovering and floors thoroughly every week and gives a bit more focus to upstairs dusting, windows etc one week and downstairs the other week. It always looks good to me. Our previous cleaner did 3 and a half to 4 hours - the kids were at home more then.
