We have been using a feather & down dual duvet on our king size bed. It has been good but has now reached the end. Can anyone recommend a really good one? We like the dual system as that works well throughout the year, but are open to other ideas. TIA

I've had a wool duvet for over ten years and I love it. The same duvet works all year round, except on very hot nights. I bought mine from a company called Baavet - they are a bit more expensive than a synthetic duvet, but mine still looks like new and I can't see myself replacing it for a good few years yet.

We have an Alpaca wool duvets. One light weight and one slightly heavier. We can pop them together to make a heavier one for winter. Not cheap but definitely the best we’ve had

I second the baavet recommendation , I love my baavet wool duvet. I think they do a dual system, they definitely do different weights. But I bought a medium one. My room is badly insulated so I have extremes of very hot at the height of summer and very cold in winter.

My system is to use the duvet in combination with a couple of wool blankets which I got second hand - cheaper and more flexible than a second duvet. When it’s very hot I put the duvet away and use a flat sheet or an empty duvet cover with a blanket.

I really like sleeping under wool and I think it’s better at temperature regulation than down.

alpaca sounds amazing!

Can I ask @NannyR and @hatboxes - how does wool feel weight wise vs down or synthetic?

I need a lovely new duvet and was thinking of down, but honestly hadn't considered wool.

I think it’s similar, certainly not heavy if that’s what you are wondering. The wool is loosely processed like wadding, not dense like in a woven blanket.

ETA: it’s less airy than down, similar to synthetic in that way, but not heavier

I have a woolroom one and love it
in fact my very northern dad who muttered about can’t you just get one for £30, had a look at mine when it arrived and immediately bought one for himself

The best duvets in the world, (seriously ) are made by Brinkhaus. I have had their for 25+ yrs and they are amazing, but an investment. I have their feather pillows and duvets also their wool duvets and silk duvets. They are used by all of-the very high end hotels and i first discovered them whilst staying at the Burj al Arab in 1999. You can wash them in your machine, and they have been bomb proof. They feel like clouds and keep you at the right temperature. Most have poppers,so can be combined for different climates.

Can't bear wool or similar duvets. They feel so dead and flat. I have the most expensive duvet from Next and it's awesome. It's bumfy and both heavy and light at the same time. It's just been changed for a summer version and I honestly can't wait for October to get it out again as it's so lovely!!

My wool duvet came from Devon Duvets via John Lewis. It’s fab.

I was recently going to change my John Lewis duck feather duvet, but got it washed professionally and it's back to being brand new! It's all puffy and soft again! Would defs recommend before chucking the old one out.

Thank you for your message. I have had it cleaned loads of times, but it has now reached the end of the road. It’s very old and we definitely need a new one now.
