Tumble dryer fog

Sooo loving this weather at the mo, but as my title mentions tumble dryer which I use this time of year for just socks pants nightwear etc, has decided to malfunction again so looking to replace before the weather changes so plenty of time to research and browse the web. Any recommendations plz for either HEAT PUMP or CONDENSER and GLASS or METAL DOOR ie the ones you can't see inside. NO PREFERENCE ON BRAND BUT IDEALLY LESS THAN 600 as I know heat pump are more expensive. Dryer constantly on 3 times a day about an hour each time sep to apr . Thanks

I don't have a specific recommendation, but having recently got a heat pump dryer it's worth bearing in mind that they are much slower than normal condensers. So if you're needing to use it multiple times a day for different loads you probably don't want one.

Avoid the hoover condenser dryer with the water container built inside the door. The plastic container cracked (possibly due to the heat?) and the water would leak back inside to the dry clothes. They did send me a replacement container as I was still in warranty but the new one also cracked and leaked so when that machine died i made sure to avoid another with the same design.

I know which sort u mean and I recall having one of those in the past and someone saying likewise to me. Thankyou kindly for your post.

A heat pump one will save loads on electricity. They are more expensive to buy but worth it.

unlikelychump · 03/05/2025 20:41

Wow three times a day for underwear?

StarTwirl · 03/05/2025 21:08

I bought a Miele heat pump recently which I love. Dries quickly even on gentle and hasn’t shrunk anything yet.

fatgirlswims · 03/05/2025 21:33

I LOVE my heat pump dryer had it since December. Nothing shrinks!! It’s brilliant. It’s so gentle unlike the furnace of my old condenser. It is so much better. I previously only tumbled pants and towels but now I do everything. No more miniature socks! It take around 2 hours to dry a load. I have a Bosch series 4. So much cheaper too.

I watched a very interesting YouTube about the types of dryer presented by an engineer. He said to avoid heat pumps because they are expensive, take ages to dry a load, don't save as much money as you'd expect and are very expensive to fix if they break. The latter is to do with the build and how you have to take the whole machine apart to get to anything (including the lint trap). His advice was a plumbed in condenser so that you don't have to empty the water manually. They are faster at drying than the heat pump. The fastest and cheapest to buy are the vented ones which are being phased out - also the easiest to repair.

When my 20 year old Miele vented dryer dies I'm going for a condenser.

I'm on my second heat pump dryer now and that sounds like out of date advice. My AEG one (one of the cheaper ones from JL) dries a lot more quickly and reliably from my previous early model JL own brand one (also AEG). About 8 years apart but noticeably better.

ChompandaGrazia · 03/05/2025 22:00

I’ve got a heat pump. I love it. Yes it takes longer but not that much. 2 hours for a full load.
Ive got mine plumbed into the washing machine waste so the water goes through there rather than having to empty it out.

Well don’t believe everything you hear because it’s simply not true for all heat pumps. Not mine anyway

Two hours for a load. Is that overloaded as it seems a long time. I recently bought an Electra condenser 8Kg £259. 30mins setting for synthetics and the 60 mins for cotton towels etc. Don't bother with all the fancy settings. There is a heat pump version for a tenner more. Yeah, it's good.

Forgot to say, I killed the previous different make that was in a pantry. I closed the door and it ate all the air and died. Didn't occur to me it needed air flow.
