Anyone ever found a single flea and NOT had an infestation?

Just found one randomly on the floor. Definitely a flea.

Gave the dog a thorough going over with a flea comb and didn't find any evidence of more. She's all up to date with Nexgard already (although we're only on the second monthly dose after a break in using it for medical reasons).

I am trying not to completely panic but we had an actual infestation a couple of years ago and it was a nightmare - the epicentre was a pile of cuddly dog toys, but they got all over the downstairs of the house including over the curtains etc. It was awful, especially with a small child crawling about. I nearly drove myself insane and I'm extremely anxious that this is the start of another infestation.

Help?!

Was it dead? Presumably cats and dogs which are protected by treatments still pick up the odd flea which is killed and will then fall off?

It is now. But nope, sadly the jumpy little bastard was very much alive.

We had just been to the park and my dog was assaulted by an extremely fluffy dog, so I am desperately hoping one just jumped across and that is it. Currently crawling around in the floor in search of The Source.

We are currently renovating so living in piles of boxes and I just don't know how I'm going to properly clean / spray. At least it'll give us a kick up the bum to get things finished!

Would burning the house down at this point be an overreaction??

I’d indorex even if it can’t be perfect because of renovations. Better than nothing and would hopefully avoid an infestation.

Fleas can still get on your dog. I use bravecto so until the passenger bites my dog it won't start to die.
We had a hitchhiker a few weeks ago.
You can flea treat your pet and as long as it's a vet strength treatment you are doing all you can.

I would say it definitely jumped off that other dog and as pp says hadn't taken a bite yet.

I think I love you, thank you.

Thank you, wise voice of reason. I'll put away the matches (for now).

Good idea. Just gotta find the indorex amongst the 8000 boxes...

As others have said, I’d spray the house and keep checking the dog for living ones for a few days. If you are renovating and moving stuff about you possibly could have disturbed dormant eggs so definitely keep an eye. We had fleas last year and we spent a small fortune on vet flea tablets but they did the job better than anything else we tried.
