I understand these are machine washable but how it it possible to get a very large rug into a washing machine? What am I missing?

I think the washable part is very thin. My understanding is that the top washable part is laid on top of a sort of underlay when in use.

This is correct.
The patterned/coloured bit is attached to a rubber based. You take it off the base to wash.

How is yours lasting? I have a small one under my desk in my office and it wore out really quickly.

This is interesting. I had wanted a very large rug for my lounge but can't imagine an overlay would remain in place, look good or be durable.

I've had one for about a year and it seems great so far. It stays together really well as it's slightly velcro-y and has corner pockets for the padded underlay to go into.

I've had mine about 3 years.
It's stats in place fine. The pad/rug interface are like low stick Velcro. Sort of like if Velcro and Post It notes had a baby adhesive!

Can you get it in a normal washing machine?

I have the washable ones from Dunelm - you need a 10kg industrial machine for the large ones and obviously you’ve then got to try and get it out wet and they are bloody heavy

so….i jet washed mine at the weekend with a karcher and they’ve come up lovely - took all day in the sun to dry so only do it on a sunny day 😁

We have a large ruggable rug. The top doesn't fit in our standard capacity washing machine. We have washed it twice and take it to the laundrette to do it in the big machine and then dry it at home. It still looks good after about 18 months and a couple of washes. It needs washing again but we have two small grubby children.

I was about to suggest this. My DD renovated a derelict property and rescued a large carpet square which must have been decades old, It was thick with grime.. Rather than chucking it in a skip she got out her Karcher and really blasted it and let it dry in the sun. The end result was lovely, a bit worn but clean, and perfect on her sanded Victorian floorboards.
