House Feeling Grubby

I was never really taught how to clean when younger and I've struggled with it over the years, I had abusive/alcoholic parents as a kid and the house was always a dirty mess, since having my own home I have tried to learn and tried to keep things 'right' however I've noticed today that now the morning sun is beaming in through the windows the whole house just feels a bit yuk, The skirtings need repainting (how often do people even do this, we've been in this home for 5 years and haven't ever repainted them?!) and everywhere just seems grubby and in need of a really big clean.
We both work FT, and are both studying and have 2 kids and 2 cats - any top tips for getting on top of it and getting everything feeling fresh again? Now absolutely see why a big spring clean is a thing!

The only thing that really worked for me was to follow the organised mum method. 30 minutes a day little and often.

There are lots of other people to follow though and podcasts and blogs and things. It's just a case of finding one you like. It's easier for me to do something is someone else has a list and is telling me what to do lol.

Probably just to start with you could hire a cleaner ( as a one off) to give the house a thorough clean.

Do you know I'd never even considered bringing in someone else to do it for us @Lampzade for some reason it hadn't even entered my head

thanks @DenholmElliot11 I'll check that out, looking around I'm wondering if actually it's because we haven't really decorated since moving in and the kids are now 9 and 5 so it may just been looking tired from toddler marks etc it was a new build moving in so was all fresh and shiny and brand new

Every January, we decorate a different room in our house. It's not too expensive, gives us a focus in boring January and keeps the house looking fresh.

Agree with trying The Organised Mum Method. It helps keep me on track.

Oh thanks everyone these are great tips, I sat with a cuppa last nigh and read through the 30 min mu method and I'll do the same tonight regarding flylady (absolutely ignoring again the mess around me) Thank you everyone, This is one part of life where I revert back to being 14 and not the almost 40 year old I actually am!
