Oil on trousers - help please?

I think I’ve got oil on my favourite pair of trousers - most likely trying to eat a toastie whilst holding my newborn in the other hand!

When I noticed, I sprayed it with stain remover, left it for ten mins then washed at 40 degrees. Not sure if that was right but after drying they still look like this.

Could they be salvaged?

I can’t see a pic, but I’ve always found good old fairy liquid the best thing to get grease out, after all, it gets the grease out of the roasting tin!
Rub a small bit of neat fairy on the stain when damp, leave it to sit for a day or two, make sure to rinse all the fairy out under the tap before putting the item in the washing machine.
Not sure it will work if the items already been through the machine though, but worth a try.

I'd say the same, although I don't bother rinsing it out before washing...

And would also wonder if it might be too late now you've washed them (although now I think about it, I think a salvaged a pair of dd's trousers that my mil claimed to have already treated and washed, so maybe it's not.)

This might sound a bit bizarre, but it always worked on fresh oil or tar, though I’m not sure it would still work on your stain as it has been laundered. The magic treatment is to use butter to lift the oil out of the fabrics, then wash the butter out with detergent. Worth a try if the pp’s suggestions don’t work.

I agree, neat fairy liquid rubbing in should remove it, OP.

Dry shampoo always works for me. Give it a good spray & leave for 10 mins or so, brush it off with a soft brush or toothbrush & spray again if needed. Wash after.
