Would anyone be interested in telling me where you store certain items which plague me?

I have loads of cluttering bits that I just don't seem to have a home for and make surfaces look bad. I'll start off the top of my head with :
Kids fidget toys. (Kids older but like a fidget so do t have toy storage now
Guitar picks and kappos
Batteries
Post to be filed (I know I know. It needs filing )
Sports sundries like mouth guards, shin pads
Cycle helmets
That's just what o can see currently

AND by the front door- 4 aftershave options for the boys. I love that they smell nice but hate this

These should be in their bedrooms! They can have a final spray as they leave the room in the morning.

Aftershave could be in a bathroom or bedrooms if that helps, but by the front door is a really cute idea. Is there wall where you could you add a little floating box shelf to make a feature of it?

Is it too early in the year to shift all the scarves and big coats out to bedrooms? Our hallway is tiny so we do a seasonal swap every year. Hats and gloves etc go away into bedroom drawers, and suncream takes their place by the front door. Our rule is 2 coats per person and 3 pairs shoes max. Any more have to go in bedrooms. And I am quite militant about big coats being packed away when people stop wearing them.

High, deep shelf over the coats for bike helmets? Ours just go on the coat hook racks but we have like 7 double hooks and max 8 coats so there's space.

@SoMentallyDrained yes so annoying! We use a combination of some thin velvet covered ones, which always hang nicely, and just a very low inventory of hangers. The wire ones are the worst for tangling.

In my last house I got a big tongue and groove board fixed to the wall behind the front door with 16 double hooks on it and a shelf at the top. Bike helmets went on the shelf with gloves, with coats, umbrellas and small sports bags sorted out on the hooks. I don't have it in my current house and I miss it like buggery. Bike helmets currently go on the hooks.

Am thinking of getting one of those wire frame thingies that you can stud with S hooks and then hang random objects from for one wall in the kitchen, for a similar purpose and also to hang kitchen requirements from.

I got rid of most of the spare coathangers, left about 5 unused ones in each wardrobe and took the rest to a recycling point. We mainly use the slim velvet ones and the sort with clips for skirts and trousers, those ones do tend to tangle in the wardrobes but having less of them helps.

Just ordered some under sink storage and some more baskets. I fear they won't help but worth a punt

Helmets hung over bike handles. The rest in the fruit bowl, hidden by the bananas

So if the shin guards are mma / striking related-
i wipe mine out after practise and then they air dry and then I basically keep them
in the car- you have to wipe tjem
out with antibacterial wipes thou.
i usually do a class after so they get an hour to air dry then back in the bag

gum shield-
keep a toothbrush and paste (nearly empty one) in the kit bag and then scrub out after and rise, then back in the bag.

cunoyerjudowel · 19/03/2025 16:04

Batteries- I have a draw in my hallway with all the guarantees / manuals / chargers / batteries and Alan keys in there - it’s by the front door for ease of ring door bell charging

i also keep protective screens and spare chargers / plugs etc

cunoyerjudowel · 19/03/2025 16:05

Also I keep a gum
shield in my glove box as it’s the one thing I won’t train without

Letter rack

I have something similar to this wall mounted by the front door and paperwork accumulates in there until I can file it!

Fidget toys - small basket in sitting room, top of bedside table.
Guitar picks - ziplock bag in drawer in whatever room the guitar is played.
Batteries - fridge.
Post - opened as soon as it comes to hand, and actioned immediately (school stuff committed to calendar, slips signed, money put in envelope, etc). Also, paperless billing for utilities means less post coming through the door. All third class post dumped.
Sports accessories - small plastic baggie for mouth guards, shinguards, etc along with baggies in plastic storage kept under beds.
Cycle helmets - basket in porch or hanging on hooks at back of bedroom doors.
