Antique leather restoration

Hello- I’ve just been given an antique leather box, I think about 1820s. The leather is delicate but not in too bad a condition really apart from one split and some smearing - where I think someone used brass cleaner on the metal feet & hinges.
I’d like to clean & (most importantly) nourish it.
Is there any leather product anyone can recommend? I am worried about using anything too harsh as it’s very delicate.
Any advice appreciated!

Have a look at Carr , Day and Martin Neatsfoot oil , this is specifically designed to be nourishing for leather .
Apply it sparingly with a soft lint free cloth , allow it to soak in ( a few hrs ) then add another thin coat .
be aware it will make the leather a bit darker.
I use it on my boots and coats about 3 or 4 x per year can be used on boots , shoes , coats , bags, belts, gloves and any other leather clothing
( and of course saddles and bridals if you happen to have any kicking around 😀🐴)

They also sell leather oil but this is more for very dried and cracked leather and is a thicker compound which may be to rich for decorative leather.

I follow a woman on YouTube who buys Coach bags from charity shops and restores them.
I am sure you will find something online from a restorer of proper vintage and antique leather.
it makes me laugh to see things from childhood and teenage years labelled as vintage! 💖💖💖 Not boxes from the 1820s, I’m not that old!😉☺️😂
