Suits me to change sheets at a weekend, there is generally time when children aren’t in their beds, even though they are teens. I don’t get a chance Mon to Fri because of work.

FiveBarGate · 12/03/2025 16:12

My decision making on bedding is based largely on the weather. If it's a good drying day I'll get as much out as possible. If it's chucking down I'm not adding bedding to the mix.

Cynic17 · 12/03/2025 16:16

Back in the olden days, my parents always changed sheets on a Saturday morning. We weren't allowed to loiter in bed, so it wasn't an issue 😂
Now I do mine on a Sunday evening, and take the dirty ones to the laundry on Monday.

BookGoblin · 12/03/2025 16:19

What the actual?

I work all week. Occasionally I change sheets. Not weekly or even fortnightly, it's a total myth you need to do it that often,

Apparently you'll die from poo particles and other things of you dont change them after each snooze.

butterpuffed · 12/03/2025 17:09

What is it with most people changing the beds on certain days . I just change mine when they need doing , whatever day it is . I must be weird !

TheChosenTwo · 12/03/2025 17:12

I do my bed every Sunday, just because getting in bed to start the working week feels like the right night for such decadence 🤣
We do have multiple sets though so it’s changed over in about 10 minutes.
Dc do their own, I make ds do his every other weekend and the dds will do theirs without prompting.

UpsideDownChairs · 12/03/2025 17:16

I don't change my kids beds at all - I put a pile of sheet/duvet cover/pillow cases on their desk and tell them I expect the dirty ones in the laundry by bedtime please.... they're 11 and 14, and entirely capable of changing their own beds by this point.

If it hasn't been done by bedtime, I will probably go and tell them to do it now, and I'll do the pillows while they do the rest of it.

Oh and generally about once a month, more often if needed.

Headingtowardsdivorce · 12/03/2025 17:18

I've never heard of this before. I just change them when I remember. The kids do their own when they remember. No one has died... yet.

DuesToTheDirt · 12/03/2025 17:49

Never heard of that. We wash clothes and bedding throughout the week.

When I was growing up both parents worked. We had a twin tub washing machine and washing/drying/ironing was a weekend job, always done on a Saturday morning, with ironing done on a Saturday evening. We kids did lie in bed sometimes but I don't think there was a huge amount of lying in bed till lunch time - if something needed doing we'd have to get up.

madaffodil · 12/03/2025 14:26

My late DM always used to change the beds on a Sunday, presumably because of following the old tradition of Monday being washing day and she didn't want to have to change the beds on Monday morning as well as doing all the laundry.

This makes perfect sense

You're killing the environment.

I have an electric car I can live with the washer being on more than twice

I always used to change the bedding on a Sunday - because that is what we did when I was a kid. I then changed it to a Friday as I thought I am more likely to get a lie in on a Sat to enjoy them than on a Monday.

This is exactly my point it's not so much the day you change them as the day you enjoy them be that morning lay in or going to bed early with fresh sheets I love getting in to a cold bed but everyone else here thinks I'm mad

8 completely get that and like you say if you work mon -fri there's no other way to do it my other point to this is more why do the so called influencers have to name it new sheet Sunday like it's the only day

Thankyou so much for all your replies some funny( we have to laugh or wed cry otherwise)some love ( as I sympathise with mum's and dads plights against the laundry basket never ending ) and some agree ( wonder what it would be like if we still had wash houses and if we would get our washing done or too busy seeing how the hormones we have or testosterone control out thoughts) much thanks to all as I'm grateful for any opinions

I have 8 duvet cover sets and 8 sheet sets.. you don't have to strip...wash...dry and back on the same day.
I like a different set on just for a change .
Sat and Sunday to me as always been a day to go out or enjoy family time.. not for staying in and washing / cleaning.
My cleaner / carer and all round fabulous lady .. changes my bed whenever l ask her.. sometimes it's every day depending.. on average it's twice a week.

CandyCane457 · 12/03/2025 20:11

When I get home from work on Friday so we have nice fresh ones for a weekend lie in 😊

Gatekeeper · 12/03/2025 20:18

Bedding was always changed on a Sunday when I was a young 'un at home ( am in early 60s now). Would never have been allowed to languish in bed as a teenager so those brushed cotton candy stripe numbers would have been in the twin tub and out on the line by 10 o'clock

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/03/2025 20:46

It makes sense to me - once I lost my Tuesday mornings at home to blitz the place, I switched to all school & work stuff going in the wash on Friday evening. The kids quickly got the hang of everything being done as soon as we walked in - I was at risk of falling asleep on the sofa if I sat down first - and were happy to load the dishwasher and washing machine.

This left Saturday mornings for them to strip their beds and load the machine before we left for swimming, eat lunch in front of cartoon when we came back, then leave me alone for a bit whilst I pushed the vacuum around and damp dusted before making a start on tea, when they'd wander off with clean linen from the airing cupboard to make their beds with the assistance of at least one cat.

Might sound too regimented, but nobody had the moment where you're just ready to go to bed, only to realise you'd forgotten to remake it.

I do ours usually on a Thursday or Friday. Then I do DD on a Sunday. Some weeks a dog has gotten into the sheets and left so much hair , the day gets moved.

LuxuryWoman2020 · 12/03/2025 23:27

Do it when it suits you! Mine are usually on Fridays for the weekend but during a heatwave I like a fresh pillowcase and sheet more often, I'll do what suits me!

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 12/03/2025 23:36

I was at boarding school and beds were always stripped and changed on a Friday whether you were going home for the weekend or not.

When my kids were little, we always did Tidy Friday.

Beds stripped in the morning, left to air for the day and remade in the evening.
General tidying done before baths/showers so you have a fresh bed for the weekend and no tidying to do.

We've stuck to it ever since and it works for us.

DoggoQuestions · 12/03/2025 23:41

I remember a kid in my class telling me about 'Hotel Day' at home, it took me ages and a lot of questions to figure out what she meant but her mum was playing around as they did jobs at the weekend so they'd play 'hotels' to change the sheets.

I loved the idea and was going to steal it to do with my children but never did.

I’ve discovered my own genius solution. Brace yourself: I wash our (double) bedding bit by bit (always used to strip the lot on a Sunday before a week at work) Now I will do the sheet, cover and pillow cases on separate days so that it’s not all stripped and has to be remade all together. Good eh 😂

I do the same 🤣 a bit at a time.
