Ready meals instead of takeaways...

Hia :)

We're always really busy on a Saturday and I never learn my lesson, get home cba to cook and order a takeaway.

With the view so save money (we generally eat very healthy through the week) can people recommend some decent ready meals?

Just thinking a decent ready meal must be cheaper than a takeaway which can often cost £30+.

TIA 🩷

Charlie Bingham is good, in Tesco they always have a lot under the ‘clubcard’ prices that are a bit cheaper than full price

M&S stir fry deal and their Thai boxes are very nice

I also love homemade donner kebab. Literally takes minutes to make then stick it in the slow cooker for a few hours and it’s beautiful.

Came back to add if you are/can be a Costco member they do some great stuff
we love butter chicken and lasagne
they Do boxes of German donner
they sell crosta and mollica pizza much cheaper than supermarkets
The big trays of gazebo brand Indian snacks are beautiful too

Thanks so much everyone...
Some great ideas here.

The cooks look delicious but there is a delivery charge.
M&S bags I hadn't thought of..

Exciting 😋

Surely cook with a delivery charge is still going to be cheaper than a takeaway? Especially if you buy a few and load up your freezer.

Cook meals are also often sold at concessions garden centres, farm shops and even petrol stations, as well as having their own shops. I've even seen a Cook vending machine at a train station!

Our local co op sell cook meals frozen . Also thank you to the person who mentioned TCK , I have an order winging it's way to me on Fri .

The m&s deals are usually decent and the tesco finest range - not as good as home made but filling and fairly tasty. Popular in our house on lazy days are the fresh ravioli pasta, they cook in less than 5 mins and are a hit with everyone. We also fall back on Kievs with chunky chips as a tasty, quick and easy meal

Waitrose have just axed their Kerulan Inspired Chicken and Chicken Shashlik.and some of their vegetarian (non masala) dishes. When I contacted them they said it was due to poor demand. At my local branch in Bridport these always sold out before the other Indian food so had to grab them (our favourites) ASAP. It seems that Waitrose's "push" supply system is not granular enough. I hate that method of distribution as your local branch gets what they want to sell - not what people actually want to eat in that area. Sad to say that we will be moving from buying at Waitrose as with little Indian takeaway choice, introduction of yet more awful auto checkouts, removal of front help desk etc and never ending building work this is turning into "just another supermarket" with little to no positives to purchasing there,

We can't get takeaways where we live so we have to rely on ready meals if we want something quick/easy. Agree with other posters, Charlie Bighams meals are nice. Especially the thai red curry.

mambojambodothetango · 08/07/2025 17:22

Cook are great but expensive. Curries from Waitrose or M&S are the only supermarket ready meals I like.
