How to remove limescale from taps without making them worse - with images

All the taps in the house we've recently moved into are affected by limescale - I'd guess the taps are about 10 years old.

We don't have the funds to replace at the moment & want to make the best of what we've got. Viakal has removed some of the limescale but nervous about leaving it on too long in case it strips the 'silver' from the taps and leaves them looking worse.

Anyone dealt with a similar situation successfully?

Our limescale is shocking, so I have an ongoing battle with this.

First off, are you sure you wouldn’t want to replace the taps? I battled mine for ages but when some had to be replaced not only did they look gorgeous but the water flow was so much better.

Taps can generally take viakal etc, it’s more likely to be handles and fittings or natural stone which cause the problems.

For that tap you picture, I would advise drying it throughly and then putting some cotton wool saturated with white vinegar on it overnight. It won’t work first time - if you’re dealing with long-term build-up, it’s a war of attrition.

Do you have grey lining to the innards of the toilets?

No funds at the moment to buy new taps and get plumber to fit them so need to make do for now.

Will certainly try your cotton wool and white vinegar suggestion.

And strangely very little issue with limescale in toilet
